If the computer is a brand one , like Dell , Acer, HP, Packard bell, IBM etc. , then download drivers from factory website .

If it is a no brand you can track the driver checking the motherboard number, inside the computer.
The best thing to do is buying a PCI card and having it installed, for under $20 you can buy eccellent surround cards, often much better than the chipset on motherboard. See here.

After checking your volume to make sure it's not set on mute, which you've probably already done,
Check in your device manager (Control Panel) SYSTEM/ Device manager under the hardware tab and check for an yellow explamation meaing next to "sound/ video and game controllers". This would mean it's not configured correctly. Re-install drivers for your sound card (this assumes you have a sound card which is likely but not definite).

Let me know if this helps

No sound and neither disc drawers work.

Hook up just one of the dvd drives and see if the BIOS detects it. Press F2 to go into the BIOS when you first turn on your computer. Setup the defaults in the BIOS. If it detects the one drive, then let it boot up into windows to see if you can get the drive to work. If you can or can't then try the other drive and see if you can get that one to work. This way your trying both at different times to see if you can get either or both to work.

Make sure the jumpers on the back of them are set to master as your trying both of them one at a time. If you can get both of them to work seperately, then the next step is to try both of them together buy setting the top drive as the master and the bottom one as the slave.

If you can get both of them to work then that means the drive is good, if one or both doesn't work then you knowhttp://www.fixya.com/PostAnswer.aspx?thid=4612444&prdid=516656&ref=unsl one or both drives are bad.

As far as the sound goes, make sure its enabled in the BIOS and then go back into windows, If you don't see the speaker in the bottom right hand corner and still no sound, then go ahead and download the latest driver for your sound located here:

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=28&l=en&s=dfb&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_3100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

Under the audio option, download and install the Sigmatel driver. If after you download and install that driver the sound still doesn't work, then the sound chipset on the motheboard is bad and in that case you'll have to buy a new sound card.

I have a gateway 831gm. it has an Intel (Augsburg) 915G Motherboard and a Pentium 4 630 cpu 800MHz fsb & 2MB L2 cache. i've been looking for a cpu upgrade and saw that the Pentium E5200 Dual Core has...

If both motherboards are LGA775 socket, then the next concern is whether or not the case is capable of having the new motherboard installed into it. Disconnect all power cables to all dv drives or cd drives and hard drives. Disconnect all ribbons from drives to the mother board. If you can get to all of the screws that hold the motherboard into the case, you get away without removing drives. Once you've got the motherboard then you can disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Remove the memory chips, disconnect the sound cable from the old motherboard. install the memory chips onto the new mobo, Connect the power cable to the new mobo, then install the new mobo into the case. Replace the ribbons from the drives to the mobo, replace the power cables to the drives and reinstall the sound cable to the cd or dv drive. You should be done now.

Do you have seperate DVD and CD drives?
Can you get sound when you play a CD on the CD drive?
If you answer yes to both of these questions, this might be your answer.

This applies to IDE drives, not to the new SATA.
In order for the sound to get from the player there is a cable that connects the drive to your sound card. This cable is probably connected to the CD. Move it to the DVD drive since the DVD drive will also play CDs.

Front usb 2.0 drives not working????

what you do is open up your computer case and find the cable that connects from your USB drive that leads to your motherboard. Unconnect it from your motherboard and reconnect it, it should give you the sound of device connected. What you probably safely removed your USB drives instead of your flash drive.
