What do you mean 'the laptop got turned off'? It just shut itself down? Was it overheated?

The disc read error means the computer is having a problem reading the boot file off your hard drive. You will not be able to boot into safe mode as your computer cannot find windows. There are twp possible answers. Either your hard drive went out and needs to be replaced. Or you need to create a boot disk or just re-install windows. Since it is a disk read error it leads me to believe the hard drive needs to be replaced. Is it a possibility to re-install windows?

Here is a link to create a boot disk

I have an acer aspire 5742 ....the problem is when i turn my laptop on shows acer logo during POST and then restarts again ....i tried pressing f2 to go to system settings but system settings do

Try System File Checker. It finds and replaces corrupted system files. You may need a copy of OS. At command prompt type sfc /scannow ENTER.

You can also use the Win 7 install disc:
Boot with a Win 7 disc, and choose Repair Your Computer. Then use Startup Repair option. Type bootrec /fixboot ENTER if end up at the command prompt. It does the same thing.

When i try to clean-up temp internet files using disk clean-up in hard drive properties it tells me there is an error in the memory dump files

It is better to use your browser to clean-up temp internet files.
For Internet Explorer do the following...
1. while in Internet Explorer
2. click on Tools in either the Menu or Command bar
3. click on Internet Options at the bottom of the pop-up menu
4. on the Browsing history part of the Internet Options window
5. click on the Delete... button
6. on the resulting Delete Browsing History window
7. check-mark Preserve Favorites website data
8. check-mark Temporary Internet files
9. make sure everything else is not check-marked
10. click the Delete button at the bottom of the window
If you want to delete other items, check-mark them prior to pressing Delete button.
If you want to manage Temporary Internet Files click on the Settings button
and set appropriate options in the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings window.
Finally, click OK when exiting to save the changes otherwise click the Cancel button.

I have a Acer Aspire 7736z-4905 and I downloaded a picture editor from the internet and I'm not sure if I got a virus but the laptop was moving really slow so I uninstalled it. After that it was telling me...

In uninstalling the software, you probably deleted a system shared .dll file. Looks like bootmanager has become corrupted. In all probability, you have NOT deleted your files, just damaged the Windows installation and will need to repair it.

Couple of options:

1.) Insert the Windows install disc and let it find the existing windows installation and allow it to repair the existing installation.

2.) If this is not possible, or it cannot be repaired, you will need to do a fresh install of windows and will lose all your files, the alternative being to remove the hard drive, connect it to a SATA port on a computer and rescue the data before reformatting the drive

3.) If you do not have a installation disc, try this link:

Everytime i switch my toshiba l300 laptop on just goes to windows is loading files then i get bluey grey screen with system recovery box saying installed program cannot start turn off im running windows...

Download "Hiren's Boot cd".Burn the ISO images in a disc.Set your BIOS to boot using that disc.Select Mini windows XP.There you can have all the repairs tools pre-loaded.If none of the tools able to fix then you can always backup your important files and doa new re-installed.

Here is the link of lastest Hiren's Boot cd

You try to remove all the program during startup using that disk with "msconfig" command.

Let me know if it work out for you.

My computer is running very slow, what do i need to do to fix this

try clearing your cookies and temp internet files. open up a explorer session, go to tools internet options. under the general tab you should see
browsing history click delete. New menu comes up make sure temp internet files and cookies are checked off click delete wait until finished then click ok ok close explore restart new session. Do you have enough memory in your computer? That could be slowing it down also.
