Question about Pentair Minimax Ch 250,000 Btu Natural Gas Pool Heater Millivolt Ignition

1 Answer

I live in the socal desert and have a Pentair Minimax NT spa heater. We have had it fail twice in the past 2 months. The tech says that we should have it disassembled and cleaned (desooted) every 2 years. He quoted $500 which includes about $150 in parts. Does this sound right?

How do i install an igniter in minimax

Pentair 472604 Igniter Replacement MiniMax NT STD Pool and Spa Heater

The ignitor is simple to replace, It is either a spark ignitor or a Hot surface ignitor. The above link will take you to a picture of the Hot surface ignitor, it is normal held onto the bottom of the burner tray, at right about the middle, by 1 or 2 sheet metal screws.

If a Spark style ignitor/electrode, then the bottom link is the one want to look at. Again, held in place the same way as above description.

All of a sudden, my outdoor spa will not heat up past 93 degrees, even though the temperature is set for 101 degrees. My pool service guy can not figure out what is wrong with it. He thinks that it might...

First of all, if your service tech cant diagnose your heater, its time for a new technician. There are a multitude of possibilities that could cause your heater to operate this way. To try to help you though Id need more information. Please contact me @ adamh@newconceptchem.com if you wish me to walk you through some troubleshooting procedures. Also below you will find 2 links. The top link is to Pentairs service center locator. Just search in your area, and it will list reputable companies approved for working on this heater. The second link is a link to the SERVICE manual for this heater. It is not a users manual that would come with the heater, it is a step by step instructional on how to troubleshoot every aspect of the heater. This is the first thing your tech should have gotten BEFORE servicing this heater.

I have a 6 yr old Pentair Minimax NT heater that just started leaking water. Is it worth it to repair it, or should I just buy a new one?

Buy a new one. I spent $650 beginning of season to replace the manifold that was leaking and now it is broken. Again. Had since new and every year it breaks, sometimes twice. 6 years of dealing with this piece of junk.
