Center channel speaker output problem

Center channel speaker output is faint and distorted. All other speaker outputs work fine. The problem is not the speaker connected to the amplifier.

Hi,
Check for the speaker separately for proper working? If needed change the speaker and check it ok.

Check the speaker output settings on the receiver. The receiver may be in a 'stereo' or 'two-channel' mode only.

I have the phillips hts5580w. how much wattage output does it have? an does this system have a built in amplifier as well?

Anything that drives speakers must be or have amplifiers. They are rated in watts.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Philips-HTS5580W-Home-Theater-Systems-manual/id/23889dj591/t/2/

It says the power output, presumably in the phoniest of terms - all channels summed together with THIRTY PRECENT DISTORTION which would seriously risk any speaker system and the health of tha amps themselves - is 1000 watts. This is a joke, a lie, marekting at its worst, especially when the totoal power consumption of the unit (that power whci it drwas from the wall outlet) is ONLY 135 watts.

Philips must be onto something no one else has ever seen - they get six times as much sound energy out of the unit as the amount of electricity that goes into it, plus all that heat. That, my friend, would be a miracle and would put all the reputable amp maufacturers, who rate their amps in honest watts per channel at certain (vanishingly low) distortion figures, to shame.

If you push this unit into sustained 30% distortion it will self destruct.

The centre speaker wires have shorted when the speaker fell off our tv cabinet and now we aren't getting any sound from that output. All the others are fine.Model:HT503PH

Did you try connecting another speaker to the center channel and confirm if the Amplifier is OK or not. Because of the fall the center channel speakers itself could have been damaged and thus not giving any sound. You can take the left or right speaker and test if the amp is OK in case you do not have any other speaker.

I am not able to hear the dialog while playing DVDs. The background is great and comes through all 5 speakers, however, to be able to listen to the dialog, I have to switch over to 2-channel or Stereo. ...

Well let me first ask is the center chanel working? or properly hooked up. Cause most of the times when in 5.1 the talking or "dialog" as you put it comes only through the center channel its just kinda how they do it. Listen to see if the center channel is working. if you are unsure try hooking up a speaker that you know works into the center channel speaker output. If no sound comes out then the reciever possible has blown its center channel. Please follow up with a comment and i will be glad to assist you further thanks, Midwes-tek

I want to run an additional amplifier from my 5.1 surround system amp speaker output to drive large dj speakers. The dj speakers need 175 rms and my 5.1 only has 100 rms per channel. Can I just wire from...

Speaker output from the amplifier is a higher voltage than a preout. The speaker level signal has to be reduced to a line level signal in order to connect to another amplifier. I used a car stereo "speaker to line level adapter" and then connected a second amp to run my front channel speakers. Works just fine.

No Right Front Speaker Output

Swap speakers over...check the balance isn't fully to the other channel...swap left/right phono cables over (if thats how your using it) other than that i would say is broke.
Easy way to check speaker cable/speaker... touch a small battery (like used in a remote) across speaker wires, you will hear and see the speaker cone move.

Center speaker channel

This sounds like a bad connection inside the receiver. A 5 minute fix with a soldering iron and about 30 minutes to get to it.
If you can solder you should be able to fix this yourself.

No dialog sound when watching DVD's

The problem is that your center channel is not functioning correctly.  Dialogue is typically routed to the center channel only in 5.1, so if you don't have a working center channel all you will get is sound FX and background sound.
Go through all your settings, verify that they are correct.  Verify that your center channel is working properly, and wired to the correct output.
Test the center channel speaker and I feel confident you will find something amiss.

The center speaker shouldn't be on the surround outputs it should be on the Center output. The surround outputs are for the rear speakers.
