Turn off your PC and check all the connection are OK

then restart the PC
start >> Run > Notepad
there you check all keys of your keyboard

In case any of the keys are not working you will come to know.

You will need to set the correct keyboard on the PC. Alternativly try shift and the number 2 (on the top row of keys NOT the number pad)

Greater than symbol? in keyboard?

Dell QWERTY keyboards greater-than symol is produced by the key sequence
SHIFT-. (shift period), like any other QWERTY keyboard. Your greater-than symbol probably wore off.
The Less-than symbol is produced by SHIFT-, (shift comma).

The symbols on my Dell L100 Keyboard do not work consistently in MS Word. Today I cannot get the quotation marks to work. The other day the question mark didn't work. It seems to only effect the ones...

It seems like you may have a strange language setting for your keyboard. Try going to Control Panel, and selecting language. It should look similar to this: snowyrat_1.jpg
There should be a tab labled something to the effect of "Change Keyboards or Other Input Methods." Select that, and then select "Change Keyboards" You'll get a menu that looks something like this: snowyrat.png
Select "Add" and scroll down to "English (United States)" Select "US(Default)" and click ok. Select US as your keyboard, and the problem should be fixed. If that's not the problem, then it may be a setting in MS Word. Hope this helps!

How do I type question mark and slash on this keyborad

Look to the right of the N and M and COMMA and PERIOD keys, for the SLASH key.

Below the COMMA and PERIOD keys, is there a key labelled ALT(ernate) GR(aphic)? If so, hold that key down, press the key to the right of the PERIOD key, and press the ALT GR key, and see if a SLASH is displayed.

I want to get the symbol @ but I can not find it in shift 2, what is the problem?

If the 2 works and the shift/2 "@" doesn't, then the key or keyboard is defective. Usually keys quit working in rows of 3 or 4. Check other keys close by to see if they work. You can replace it with just about any keyboard, it doesn't have to be an HP keyboard.

Symbols gone crazy

The keyboard appears to be defective, but if you replace it and you still have issues, then the matrixing chip on the motherboard is bad and you will have to change the motherboard as well. Let me know, and vote.

I had the same problem. When I pressed shift and that comma key I got a " instead of a @.

I looked to see what on the leyboard you normally press to get a " and that's the number 2 key.

Tried pressing shift and the 2 key and hey presto, I got a @.

So it looks like @ and " have swapped places.

So shift and 2 for a @!
