Check to see that your wireless antenae is on.. it is possible to turn on via your keyboard with a function key. this saves energy on the laptop. Look at your keyboard and see if you see a function key on one of your keys that is activated by teh FNC key.
Thanks!

If I were you, I'd first let Windows Manage Wireless Network Connections:
  1. Click Start If you're using XP, click Start then open the Control Panel. Find the Switch to Classic View button in the Control Panel and click it.
  2. Open Network Connections Open Network Connections then double-click the Wireless Network Connection icon.
  3. Click the Properties Click the Properties button. Look for the boxes at the bottom of the Properties window that read "Show icon in notification area when connected" and "Notify me when this connection has limited or no connectivity" and make sure they are both checked.
  4. You could also right click on the Wireless Network Connection icon and click Properties from there.
  5. Open Wireless Networks tab Open the Wireless Networks tab and make sure the box labeled "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" is checked. Then click OK.
  6. under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network and Sharing Center you could find "manage wireless connection" there you could assign/delete wireless connection.

Won't Connect to the Internet

With a wireless connection, your PC can connect wirelessly to a network printer. In addition, you can set up your PC in a location where no phone line or cable connection exists. Outfitting your desktop to a wireless Internet connection is very easy. Just follow these simple steps and you'll be surfing the net wirelessly in a matter of minutes.
Find out if wireless Internet reception exists where your computer is located. If you're located very close to a W-iFi hotspot, like a coffee shop, you may be able to use this network to get wireless Internet for desktop PCs. Also, some apartment complexes and college dorms have free wireless Internet. Your neighbors may have wireless Internet too, which you can ask them if you can use. Buy a wireless network adapter for your desktop. You can obtain an adapter from most electronic stores. Be sure to get a wireless adapter with the proper strength, which depends on how far you are from the wireless hotspot. The easiest adapters to install are those that just plug into an available USB port. Set up your wireless Internet for your desktop PC according to the instructions that came with the wireless adapter. The usual procedure is to plug the wireless adapter into an available USB port. Windows will install the appropriate driver. After your PC recognizes the wireless adapter, select the "Connections" icon in the taskbar (represented by vertical bars). A list of available connections will appear. Select the desired connection. If you are prompted for a password, enter the appropriate password. Click "Connect." You are subsequently connected to a wireless network. Launch your browser and enjoy surfing the Internet wirelessly. If you are the owner of the wireless network, secure your wireless network with a password. To do so, navigate to the "Start" menu and select the "Control Panel." Then select "Network and Internet" and "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Change adapter settings" in the left pane. Double-click the icon of the appropriate wireless connection. The Wireless Network Connection status window appears. Click the "Wireless Properties" button. Select the "Security" tab and select an encryption type from the drop-down selection. Enter a password in the Network security key field. Make sure that the password matches the router settings. Press "OK" when done. Get a wireless internet router for your Internet connection if there is no wireless Internet already in your area. You can buy these online, or at electronic stores. You'll need to set up your router using the accompanying instructions and your own Internet service provider. This is best in a home with multiple computers.
You will have to open up your network connections Click start control panel network connections this may vary depending on your operating system look for local area connection if you see a red x or a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? you will need to update or install the driver or it could be firewalled, If you are trying to connect through a modem/router you it should have come with a disk then you might have to connect the usb lead to your modem to get a connection then Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to network adapters should see a yellow question ? exclamation mark ! or a red X right click install drivers. The driver might be on the disc supplied by your ISP internet service provider or the motherboard disc Click start type cmd press enter you will be in DOS mode type in ipconfig press enter you will see all o fyour internet connection details type in your default gateway adress into your internet search should read something like 10.0.0.138 Make sure you Ethernet/internet is enabled in bios restart your computer during the boot up process you will see on your screen a certain key to press to enter set up (BIOS) press and hold that key to enter bios using arrow keys navigate to integrated peripherals look for SiS On Chip Pci Device press enter scroll to SiS 10/100m press enter make sure its "Enabled"imake

I can't find anyway to connect my Emachine W3115

The eMachines W3115

The system features 10/100Mbps integrated Ethernet support for local area networking and a 56K ITU V.92-ready modem and fax port.

Select your "Start" menu from the desktop, right-click on "My Computer" before selecting "Properties." Select "Hardware" menu once the Properties menu pops up, and click your "Device Manager" menu.

Look for something marked as 802.11b/g WLAN. If you see it, this means you are using the right hardware for connecting your wireless router.

Go back to your "Start" menu, select "Control Panel" and go to "Network Connections." Continue by right-clicking on the icon for "Wireless Network" and selecting "Properties."

You should see three tabs for the window for Wireless Network Connection Properties. Choose "Internet Protocol" before clicking on "Properties," allowing you to connect to a network.

Click "Start," before going to "Control Panel," and finally to "Network Connections."

Right-click on the icon for "Wireless Network" while you are in the Network Connections window, and choose "Repair."

This will end your connection with your present wireless network and attempt to reestablish a stronger network connection.

Reboot your laptop to fix the wireless Internet connection problem if none of the previous steps works. Click on the "Start" button on your desktop and select "Restart."

Wait for about 15 to 30 minutes to observe if the wireless connection problem has improved
Make sure you Ethernet/internet is enabled in bios. Restart your computer during the boot up process you will see on your screen a certain key to press to enter set up (BIOS) press and hold that key to enter bios using arrow keys scroll to integrated peripherals

look for SiS On Chip Pci Device press enter make sure its enabled.
then recheck the driveri t should be there
k the driver it should be there
make sure its enabledPci device arrows key scroll to nstalled
if you computer came with a motherboard disk the driver could be on it
or this disk provided by your ISP provider Internet Service Provider

or you might have to download one

http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-RTL8139-Family-PCI-Fast-Ethernet-NIC/3000-2112_4-91313.html

if these packages are not the right

http://download.cnet.com/2000-20_4.html
on the home page you should see a search tab just type in what you are looking for
tick in either windows software or the all software box
eg: motherboard name wireless or ethernet driver
you might have to try a few times to get it right

Hope this helps.

Cant get wireless to work on acer aspire ax3400desktop

Is it set up to be wireless? Is there a wireless card installed inside the desktop or are you using a wireless device that you use in one of the usb ports? Do you have a wireless router? Now that we've covered the basic requirements let's see if we can find a solution. Most desktops don't come with the ability to connect wirelessly out of the box. Normally you have to installed a wirelesss device either by using a pci wireless adapter that you istall inside the computer or a usb type adapter that you plug into a usb port. No matter which type you use you should have been given a software disk that contains the driver and the utility that controls the wireless device. You can connect either using the wireless utility software that should be on your desktop or under your programs list. Or you can connect using windows (windows comes with the ability to connect wireless once an adapter is installed) zero config. Normally your wireless utility software will have an option to either let it control your wireless connection or to let windows control the connection. I would try both options if I were you. Make sure you can see your wireless router in the list of available wireless networks. Find your network and click Connect. If it requires a password it will prompt you for it. Now if you notice your connection just continously polling trying to connect that means you put the password in wrong. You will never connect if you don't put the password in exactly right.

Wireless zero configuration is the feature of Windows XP that allows Windows to detect the available wireless networks and automatically connect to the most preferred wireless network.

It is enabled by the Wireless Zero Configuration service in Windows XP. It provides auto wireless network detection when you switch on the computer.
Follow the steps below to verify that the service is running:
1. Go to Start and right click My Computer. Select and click Manage.
2. Computer Management window will appear. Under Services and Applications, select Services.
3. Check for the service Wireless Zero Configuration. Make sure that it is started and that the startup type is set to automatic.
computer-management.jpg4. If it isn't, double-click the service. If the startup type is not set to automatic, click on the dropdown arrow and and change it to automatic. Click OK at last.
autostart-wireless-zero.jpgIf your wireless adapter driver does not support wireless auto onfiguration, you will notice the following:
- The network adapter does not appear as a wireless network adapter in Network Connections. It appears as a LAN adapter, similar to an Ethernet connection.
- The properties of the wireless connection do not have a Wireless Networks tab.
- You do not receive a Windows XP notification bar message indicating that wireless networks are available.
To get the most out of your Windows XP wireless experience, you should contact wireless adapter manufacturer to obtain the latest version of the drivers that support this XP feature.
If not, you must manually configure wireless network settings using the configuration software supplied with the wireless network adapter.

When I try to run the Dell Wireless Configuration Utility from the control panel I get the following error message:"The wireless network adapter could not be accessed. This application may have diminished...

Well Sir in this case i will advice you to disable the Dell Wireless Configuration Utility and instead use windows utility for a successful connection.

For disabling dell configuration utility follow these steps:-
1)Open dell Wlan utility , it will have five tabs at the top labeled wireless networks , link status , site monitor , diagnostics and information.
2)Click on wireless networks tab and uncheck the first option which says , "Let this tool manage your wireless network" then click ok or apply at the bottom right-hand side corner of the screen.

To Enable Windows Utility for Windows XP follow these steps:-
1)Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu.
2)From Control Panel click on network and internet connections and then open network connections from there.
3)Right-click Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
4)
Click on the Wireless Networks tab and if unchecked , then check the box for Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Then click OK.
5)Right-click on Wireless Network Connection, Select View Available Wireless Networks.
6)
This will lists all the available wireless networks in range. Select your network from the list and click Connect.
7)If you are connecting to a secured wireless network, you will be prompted for a Network key. Type the Network key(which is the password for the wireless network) and then click connect.
8)Your network list should now display your connection status. If you are connected and your router is setup for internet access, you are ready to connect to the Internet wireless.

To my knowledge of understanding is as if the WIFI is weak and cannot get connected to any network around anymore so if you wish to have a wirelless connection you can still make use of a USB doggle and the network operator or manufacturer will give you the access and you browse anywhere you go with your system and the USB will be connected to your system ok
