Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook

1 Answer

Dell inspiron 1501 will not charge

My wife purchased a Dell 1501 18mths ago and now the Dell does not recongnise the original battery supplied by dell and even when it did it would not charge past 3% rendering this laptop a desktop! It would appear from your site there are issues with the Dell batteries but this is the original one supplied and I didn't really want to spend £45 on a new battery that will probably break soon away. HELP.....Do you have any ideas or solutions.

Many thanks, Charles

Did you try to contact dell and see if they would replace the battery when it was or if it still is inder warranty?

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop, model no. PP23LA. My problem is that the system does not recognise the power adaptor/charger & will not charge the battery. The laptop will run with the power...

If the battery is not charging, the problem is most likely the battery...not the charger. Check around to see if you can get a battery replacement I think would be your best course of action. If you have a friend with a model laptop with the same battery you could always "test out the scenario" before purchasing one.

Good Luck

My laptop is dell inspiron 1501 but no work keybord and battery charging but supply line(AC adaptor) is ok.

Hello there. The Inspiron 1510 was released almost 5 years ago. If your system is more than 2 years old, then perhaps you will have to replace the battery. Battery for the most part, will only last 1 to 2 years. As for the battery, try connecting an external USB keyboard. If its working, then you need to replace the laptop's keyboard. Hope this will help.

Dell Inspiron 1501 new battery purchased in September and now won't hold a charge

The battery should be protected if you purchased it from Dell or a reseller offering warranty. You should compare all information on both batteries to ensure you have the right one. Just because it fits does not always mean it is the proper battery.

I had the battery not recognized on boot up. then

the Dell AC adapter has a sensing pin so the bios can determine the wattage of the adapter. If the system cannot ID the adapter, the battery charger circuit is disabled. You'll need a functional DELL ac adapter to get the battery to charge

On the long term, a power adapter with a bigger amperage can damage battery and battery charger.

Better to get an adapter with same specs as the 65/70W one , or an original replacemant:

DELL XPS 1210 i purchased a replacement battery not recognised

If the battery is not detected in the BIOS (F2 at boot) and doesn't show as charging, then return the battery and get a replacement.

If neither the original battery or the new replacement battery are not detected in the bios a problem with the motherboard may exist. If still under warranty, contact Dell Support for a repair, if not, then you may be investing in a new motherboard

Replacement battery for Dell Inspiron 1501 won't charge

If your old battery was doing the same (not charging), then is is because the charger is not charging the battery. Do you have a friend with a Dell laptop? Maybe you can use a borrowed charger to test and see if it will charge the batteries. To answer your question , no Dell does not have anything built in to prevent you from using a 3rd party battery.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Dell inspiron 6000 not charging

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000, and so does my wife. One day coming back from the airport, the power adapter cord(the end that plugs into the laptop) was hanging out the door and was dragging on the ground. Well the end was unusable and I was out looking for another AC adapter. Dell wanted $80 for a new one, but I found one on ebay for $40. But once I got it, I found that it would power my laptop, but wouldn't charge my battery. I thought, I know the old one works, so I cut the end off the ebay one and wired it onto the original one but ended up with the same result. Called the ebay seller and turns out these AC adapters are dell seconds. They claimed to test them and offered to send me another one and did so. By that time the new one from dell dropped to about $40 so I just bought it too anyways. The new dell one worked and the second one from the ebay seller did the same as the first one he sent me. I found out that the dell laptop wont charge the battery if the supply goes below 19.5V. By me hacking the other end on the original AC adapter, didn't result in the best insulated connection from the other wires. Also, if anyone know anything about AC adapters, is that they have a "Step Down Transformer," and the company that makes them, low balls the windings so that if they are off on the voltage, they are under, and not over, thus not frying the more expensive laptop. My suggestion to you is to just pick up a new AC adapter from dell. Also, the rubber coating on the cord is pretty soft and splits easily.
