My Sony Playstation 3 keeps crashing everytime I get on it. It can last at a maximum of 10-15 minutes, and a minimum of 1-3 minutes. PLEASE HELP!!!

Sounds like your hard drive is going out. You can get on ebay and get 320gb for 35-40$ and they have 1tb if you want to spend an extra 10. Replacing hard drive is very simple just be sure to have a flashdrive. After you put the new hard drive in its gonna want you to update the system manually so what you'll need to do is plug your flash drive into your computer and go get the newest update from playstation.com for the ps3 and put it on the drive in a folder named PS3 inside that folder you'll need another folder called UPDATE that is where you will store the update. Before you put the update on the flash drive make sure to format the flash drive which can be done by right clicking it in the My Computer menu. It needs to be formatted to FAT32 if your computer doesn't allow you you can download something that will format it to FAT32 for free. Plug the flash drive into your ps3 put the new hard drive in and get ready to start your ps3 back up. By the way if you don't know where your hard drive is located or how to get it out look it up on youtube. Taking them out are very simple not much can go wrong. If the hard drive doesn't take the first time take it back out make sure all dust is off teeth inside its sure to be dusty I promise make sure hard drive is firmly seated in. Good luck hope this helps :)

Playstation 3 screen says " cannot start, the correct hard disk was not found." after turned on. will do nothing else. any ideas?

A long shot but it sounds like your hard drive has basically "switched off". If you have a USB sata hard drive dock I can help but its a bit of a complicated process. You need to remove the hard drive from the PS3 and plug it into the USB sata dock then connect it to your computer. Goto Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Disk Managment. Look in the lower area of the screen that appears for your PS3 drive, probably E:, and look if it says "Not initialized". If it does, right click where it says that then click Initialize Disk. Put it back in your PS3 when it is done and hopefully it will turn back on. You will lose all saved data though as the hard drive will need to be formatted.

Hope this helps

Trying to upgrade my hard drive to 250gb. PS3 will not recognise new hard drive even after I format it to FAT32 on a computer. When I put new hard drive into the PS3 it tells me to format hard drive and if...

If your PS3 is telling you to format your hard drive, then it is recognizing it. You have to reformat the hard drive using the PS3, not your computer. If you don't have the option of formatting your hard drive then you may have to download an update from Sony and then run that disc to format the hard drive. Some of the updates will completely erase all saves, downloads, & etc when done from a disc. So be sure to use this with your new hard drive in the PS3, just to be sure not to lose all your stuff on your old hard drive. Sony has a "walk-thru" on these things on their website.

Ps3 not formating 500gb internal new hard drive?

Hi Eric,

First you will need to connect the hard drive to your computer or a friends, either using a hard drive enclosure or cable

Then you need to format the drive into fat32 format (full format recommended , not quick format)

Then put it back into your ps3 and have a usb flash drive with the latest ps3 software loaded

then you will be able to format the drive and load the ps3 os

When i turn on my ps3 it does nothing else but go to the backroud

More than likely your hard drive was corrupted. The easiest way to fix it is to format the hard drive. There are LOTs of different ways to do this but the easiest way is to just hook the hard drive to a computer via a usb cable and then formating it through disc manager.

Here's a quick guide:

It doesn't matter what file system your choose, just format it, and then pop it back into the PS3. It will recognise the hard drive as a new drive and then will reformat it again so that the PS3 can read it.

That's it! Problem solved.

The drives are SATA so if you don't have a usb cable you could always throw the drive into a laptop as long as it takes a SATA drive and use an XP or Vista CD and follow the same generall game plan: format the drive

OR you could swap the drive into someone else's PS3, it will do the same exact thing. It will recognize it as a new drive and will format it, then just pop it back into your old PS3 and boom. SUCCESS!!!

:)

That's probably the easiest way now that I think about it.

PS3 Does not register external hard drive

The E.H.D. might not be formated correctly. The Playstation 3 will not read any disc or hard disc if it is formatted under NTSC. It must be formatted under FAT or FAT32 ( can't remember exactly). You would need to format the E.H.D. with windows and check to see if you can format it for FAT32 if not then you need a formatting software (Max Drive or some other). Mine works great.
Good luck
