Question about HP 12c Calculator

HP 12C cuts out when the battery door is the whole way on

When the battery door is not the whole way pushed in (held on by a piece of tape), it works fine. When I push the battery door on the whole way (and the battery pushes down inside), it won't work.

This happened to me too. I took out the battery and found the contacts had been squished down too much. (You should see three pointing towards the center.) I used my fingernail to pry them back out a bit, played around with squishing the battery in and checking it, and after a few times, it worked atain.

How to fix my hp calculator 12c numbers display is faint?

There is no contrast adjustment possible with the 12c. Most of the time, faint displays are due to weak batteries or poor contact with the battery or batteries.

I have an HP 12c. I replaced the battery (CR2032) and the unit will not turn on.

Try to flip the battery, if it does not work, pull the battery out and wait for 10 minutes. After that, put the battery in again.

What battery do I use in an older model HP 12C? The battery in the calculator is model 357...can't find.

The more common name for the 357 is SR44. Other common names you might see are LR44, A76, and S76, depending on the manufacturer. Any of those will work.

The calculator is not showing any display after replacing the battery of HP 12C

Try verifying Proper Operation (Self-Tests)

If it appears that the calculator will not turn on or otherwise is not operating properly, use one of the following procedures.

1. With the calculator off, hold down the [ON] key and press [X] (the multiply key)..
2. Release the [ON] key, then release the [X] key. This initiates a complete test of the calculator’s electronic circuitry. If everything is working correctly, within about 25 seconds (during which the word RUNNING the display should show –8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8,8, and all of the status indicators (except the * battery power indicator) should turn on. If the display shows Error 9, goes blank, or otherwise does not show the proper result, the calculator requires service.

Tests of the calculator’s electronics are also performed if the [+] key or the [divide] key is held down when [ON] is released. These tests are included in the calculator to be used in verifying that it is operating properly during manufacturing and service.

Screen is flashing 0.00

I had the same problem with my HP 11C. The following solution worked for me.
1. Remove the battery cover.
2. With the batteries in place (i.e. DO NO REMOVE THEM), use a small piece of wire (I used a standard staple bent at one end), short the terminals FOR A BRIEF MOMENT between both ends of the set of batteries (the HP-11C has three). This means somehow inserting the staple such that the contacts in the batteries receptacle are shorted.
3. The flashing will stop. Then push the ON button until the calculator turns on. If it does not work the first time, remove the batteries and resinsert them.
4. You may have to repeat this procedure. I had to do it twice before my calculator worked again.

Calculator HP 19 B II - replacement of broken part

I had the same problem and fixed it using a small woodscrew and washer to hold the battery cover in place. The screw is 10 milimetre in length with a 5 milimetre head which I have screwed into the calculator case in the gap where the missing edge has snapped off. I inserted the batteries and held the cover in place whilst I tightened the screw and washer so they overlapped the battery cover but held it in place.
To create the hole in the case, I used a very sharp nail as a nail punch, held the HP19BII in between my knees (to allow movement in case I hit it too hard) and tapped the nail into the plastic until it was fully pierced. I then wriggled the nail around to make the hole big enough for the screw to enter. NOTE - don't use a long screw as it might reach too far inside and damage the electronics.
Works a treat for me!

Display Problem & Question

To remove the comma, turn off the calculator. With it turned off, push and hold down the [ON] key. While still depressing the [ON] key, push and hold down the decimal or [.] key. Now you should have them both held down. Now, release ONLY the [ON] key.

To remove the "c", push then release the [STO] key. Then push and release the [EEX] key.
