Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Refrigerator is running but not cooling

My Whirlpool refrigerator's compressor ( ET1FTTXKQ00) is making a ticking sound, similar to the way a car's a/c compressor makes when it is low on coolant. The fan in the freezer is running, but blowing warm air and the cold water dispenser will only dispense warm water. I have vacuumed under and inside of the refrigerator in hopes that the compressor was simply blocked, but with no luck. The refrigerator's manufactured date is 10-01, please help.

You have a bad compressor relay. to check it you will need a voltage meter. Remove the rear cover and you will see the compressor remove the relay held on by a wire. If the relay sounds like a maraca replace it with part #8201769. If is donesn't sound like somethings broken inside it check for continuity on all 3 compressor terminals ( all terminals should read closed ) now this can go to ways if the terminals read good and the relay is good then the compressor is lock rotor and has to be replaced. Most cases it's the relay Good luck hope this helps

Refrigerator is not cooling, but it sounds like a

If you do not have frost build up on the rear wall inside the freezer ( defrost problem ) , then the overload/relay , attached to the compressor is bad . This part , plugs onto the compressor which can easily be replaced . Pt # 8201786. Instructions come with the part .

Compact refrigerator stopped cooling. If you turn the thermostat on the light flickers and makes a clicking sound. If you turn the refrigerator off the light stays on. In the back you can hear it ticking...

The clicking sounds like the compressor is trying to start. If the condenser fan running? If it is then you need to check the relay of the compressor. It could be a bad compressor.

Runs but will not cool compressor sound is not the same as it was

If there is a clicking noise coming from the compressor, replace the start relay on the compressor. Make sure the compressor fan motor is running.

Whirlpool top freezer refrigerator- compressor makes a loud noise

The compressor is that black casing you see at the bottom of your refrigerator - inside this sealed case is the motor assembly which stits on 3 or 4 springs that act like a cushion - you have a little gap at the bottom where the lubricating oil is present. Your springs have likely worn out and when the compressor shuts off the assembly is banging against the rigid casing make that loud "klonk" or bang noise. It IS normal for compressor to make some faint "tick-tick-tick...tick.....tick" when shutting off, but loud banging, bell sounds, etc, means the assembly is banging on the case from the inside - you can indeed live with the noise, your compressor will function normally, probably for months, or even years - it can also keep wearing out and one day the noise might get very loud (like a very high humming noise) - There is NOTHING that can be fixed, you either pay $400+ to change the compressor or buy a new refrigerator - If you DO replace a compressor usually the replacement will be noisier - Keep a thermostat inside your refrigerator at all time to make sure your compressor is still keeping your refrigerator and freezer cool.

Whirlpool 20.8 Top won't cool neither refrigerator nor freezer

that's about right, if the compressor is drawing more than 4 amperes, then it is no good.

A reminder also to check the condenser for dirt and debris that could have accumulated at the front, this is a major contributor to compressor failure. check also the fan near the compressor. it should be running at the same time the compressor runs.

that's nice to hear from whirlpool....

good luck tapperal,
