Ok it will not drain or spin! thats going to be the lid switch.if you look where the lid meets the washer body there is a small hole.under that hole is the switch i am speaking should be tight up against that hole from underneath, also on the lid the actuator, the pice that goes into the hole should not be repair is another story.the eazy for now way might be stick somthing in the hole so the switch will make contact.but that works only if switch not to badley broken.other wise would need new switch and have to take off washer shell[cabinet]to install new switch.i know times are tight, for me too.i wish i could fix for you.but you know,distance..........anyway if you had some one i could instruct i would be happy to .God bless ,tom

i did just write a note on this if you want to change switch thats best.the timer console ,after removing two screws flips up then undo the lid switch connector and take a screw driver place tip in the front of those brassie looking clamps on each side of cabinet and push back, they will then pop out and then lift cabinet towards you tiping the top back towards you.let that cabinet go to the floor[laying on its belly, and then replace switch.then reverse putting back together.clue........when pushing cabinet back aginest the back of the washer.on the bottem back of cabinet there are two holes that go on to two tabs that are on the floor part of the frame in the back.they give the cabinet somthing to hold on too.if you need further help just call,,may God bless you with your child,i have 6 and he bless me. tom

My Kenmore washer drains after the rinse cycle but won't spin at the end of it's cycle. If I manually set it to the spin cycle, it spins just fine. Desperate!!! The lid switch was just replaced about

Possible there is problem with the timer controller unit. It seems that the stepper motor is not moving to the next cycle until you manually move it to the spin. You can use some contact cleaners on the switch and also carefully try to see if the timer moves within , replacement is a costly issue and must be debated

Washer works fine until it starts filling on the rinse cycle, then the water just flows out of the drain. Last night the water was running for 3 hours, before I realized it. The tub fills fine when it is...

Make sure the drain hose is not sealed to the drain pipe, and that the hose is not shoved into the drain allowing the end of the hose to reach the trap. That will prevent the machine from syphoning out the rinse water as it fills.

Kenmore 80 series top load washer. In the permanent press mode the machine will stop when it moves to the rinse mode. I can manually move the time past the midpoint of the cycle it will run for a minute...

So it will spin and drain when put in the spin cycle right? More than likely it is your timer if you have to keep manually setting. I would check on timer prices and go from there.

Kenmore washer quit working

it may be waiting for a faulty heater to kick in. try it on a cold water wash, no heat and see if it continues the full wash. if it does not then it may have a faulty timer.

Thank you for the info. washer that doesn't work

It appears your timer has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to or and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question

Will not move to the next cycle.

  • It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.

  • It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
