Did you make a complete system backup? Hope so cos you'll need those discs. Here's what I did:

In Vista (immediately after buying) I made a complete set of backup discs. Came to 5 DVD discs in total - 2 for factory default settings, 2 for system configuration, 1 for driver and application backup. Then I installed XP as usual. Insert driver and application backup disc and explore folders. Install whatever you need (Chipset, audio, etc). Real simple. Problem came with graphics card. I have the nVidia Geforce 8400 - couldn't find driver anywhere on the internet - ultimately I had some techie friends hack together a driver for me.

Moving to XP is definitely possible. It took me about four months though to get everything right mainly 'cos of the video driver. If you have queries contact me: bigseb1@gmail.com

Here are some stats:
Vista: preinstalled software (OS, antivirus, office, those garbage games, etc) plus my work software came to 44GB on C drive using 800MB of page file (RAM) in idle! (ie directly on startup, not running software yet)
XP: OS, work software, various odds and ends including 2 high spec games, antivirus comes to 16GB on C drive using 245MB of page file in idle.

Go XP!

You should first try acer's site, assuming that they actually created the drivers. I tried once to do the same but some of the hardware's drivers proved to be useless... It is best if you find the drivers at the acer site, as it is much more reliable than other places in the net...

WLAN problem

Hi,
Yes this is an OS problem. Mostly laptop vendors like ACER expects that the OS is Vista or Windows 7.

And these OS have default drivers of WLAN but unfortunately Windows XP don't have these drivers.

So you have only two options.
Either to upgrade your OS or to search for valid drivers of WLAN of Win-XP on Acer's website.

Please rate this solution properly if it was helpful to you.

With Regards,
Ankit

XP INSTALLING

The drivers can be obtained from this website.

If you haven't dumped the OS, use DriverMax to backup your drivers to a USB stick and restore them under XP.

If you have a second computer and are feeling adventurous, you can use the drivers, your XP disk and a program called nLite to create a custom XP disk with the drivers built in. You can also load Service Packs in case your disk is out of date.
