After an hour on the internet still cannot find the correct spark plug for this unit. Found the tecumseh number but couldn't find a crossover to another brand spark plug. One source said it takes a champ rj19lm set @ 020 and another says it uses a rj8c @ .o30 gap. Please help!

remove bowl from the carb . clean it out ,and check for free fuel flow
SOURCE: Coleman 5000 watt generator Tecumseh 10 hp engine.
it's running lean.....try resetting the choke partially when it begins to surge.....not completely closed, but enough to richen the fuel mixture (that's all a choke does btw..)
if that helps or clears the problem, your carb is outta whack.....cheaper to buy a new carb than keep taking back into the shop.

4 bolts to the engine then altenator will just pull off may need a puller to get it moving

There are a couple of switches on these things, and their positions and the little icons on them are NOT intuitive - well maybe they are intuitive to the under-20 crowd. I lent mine (which starts right up) to a friend who spent an hour or two pulling the cord before he noticed how to turn it on. I'm not trying to be a smart-alec. I hope this helps.

Hello; Make sure all the moving parts on the carb are free especially the governor shaft going into the front of the engine.Use Gumout or PB Blaster to free up parts. Then start it up with no load. Turn the needle valve on the bottom of the carb counterclockwise until it starts to sputter out. mark this point in your mind and then turn valve in clockwise. Engine will smooth and then start to die. Back needle off to a point halfway between these points. If it is way off turn in carefully till it seats, then back out 1 1/2 turn to get it to start. You may still have to do a touch up when you put it under load. John
