Hi - we've just got an xbox 360 and only seem to be able to play games with a single player. What do we need to do to be able to play against each other please?
We've got 2 wireless controllers but only seem to have options for single players highlighted at the start of any games.
When we go into the Games option to Sign in - it says there are 4 profiles, but we can't have more than 1 open at any time - so how do we get the machine to recognise 2 players?
Many thanks
Sharon
On the wireless controllers, there is a very tiny little button, while the big "X" is lit up, press and hold the tiny button down (for 10 seconds?). the lighted "x" should start going around in circles. there is also a matching tiny button on the xbox360 itself, press and hold it down too. you have to press both of the little buttons within a few seconds of each other. the lit "x" on the xbox360 will do the same "going in circles" thing. they will both stop (for the second controller, the lights will stop on the top right of the lit "X") when they see each other. the first controller light is the top left quarter of the "x" the second controller is the top right of the "x" you need a kid with good eyes to see what the other two are, it is written on the wireless controller around the "x". when the xbox 360 sees both the first and second controllers, the top left and top right of the xbox 360 will be lit - so it looks like the top 1/2 of the x is lit. the first controller only has the top left lit, the second controller will have the top right of the x lit. hope this helps.
You need to hit the round X button the middle of both controllers and set which profile they will use.
Do it on controller 1 first then controller 2
Which games are you trying to get multiplayer working on??
Are the LEDs light up correctly around the world... top left is number 1, top right is number 2 etc?
Have you created more than one offline profile EG: Player 1, Player 2 (if you arent on xbox live).
Create an Additional ProfileWhether for your convenience or for playing with friends, you have the option to create multiple offline profiles.
To create an offline gamer profile after initial setup:
http://www.xbox.com/en-AU/support/xbox36...Turn on your Xbox 360 system. If auto sign-in is enabled, press (X) to sign everyone out.
Select Sign In from any area of the Xbox Dashboard.
Press (Y) to Create New Profile.
At
the next screen, Gamer Profile Name, enter a name for your gamer
profile. While it's most convenient if this matches your Xbox Live
gamertag—which you may or may not have yet—you can easily modify your
gamer profile name later.
Tip
Your
gamertag can be from 1–15 characters (chosen from a–z, A–Z, 0–9, and
space), it must begin alphabetically, it cannot end in a space, and it
cannot have two spaces in a row.At the final screen, Save Gamer Profile, choose from:
Join Xbox Live to join Xbox Live with the gamer profile you just created.
Customize Profile to save your profile to your console and select a gamer picture.
Done to save your profile to your console and return to the Xbox Dashboard.
I'm pretty sure that once you create an additional profile you should be able to "sign in" to the profile on controller 2.

Set up your Xbox Live connection by connecting your Xbox 360 to high-speed Internet. There are two options: connecting it to your network via Ethernet cable or connecting to your network via a wireless adapter. The simplest and fastest connection is connecting via Ethernet cable directly to your modem or router. If you must connect wirelessly, use the Xbox 360 wireless adapter, sold separately. See the Resources section below for connection tips.
Test your Xbox Live connection after connecting your Xbox 360 to your high-speed Internet. Navigate to the dashboard, select "My Xbox," choose "System Settings" then "Network Settings." Run the diagnostic test to confirm your connection works. Your Xbox 360 will offer troubleshooting tips if the test fails.
Create an Xbox Live gold account. Log out of all profiles then press the "Guide" button and choose "Join Xbox Live." Follow the prompts, entering your billing and personal information. You will also choose your gamertag during this process, which will serve as your online name and identity. Lastly, you will customize your profile. Your Xbox 360 will then create the account.
Insert your Xbox Live multiplayer game and open the game's Xbox Live multiplayer menu. Different games have different options but certain features remain the same across all multiplayer games. There is the TrueSkill ranked matchmaking system, which pits you against players of similar skill levels. There are also unranked player matches, where you can practice and hone your skills in a non-competitive atmosphere. Lastly, there is the quickmatch matchmaking system, which automatically searches for games for you, whether they are unranked or ranked.
Add and play with friends. Xbox Live allows users to add up to 100 friends. Add a friend by pressing the "Guide" button, navigating to the "Friends" tab, then selecting "Add Friend." Type in your friend's gamertag then press the "Start" button and choose "Send Friend Request." Your friend will need to confirm the request to complete the process. You can play multiplayer games with friends by opening your friends list and inviting them to a game lobby.
Communicate with friends and opponents using an Xbox 360 headset. The wired Xbox 360 plugs into your controller. Once it's plugged in, you can speak into microphone and listen to others from the ear piece.

Tried that - but when I go onto controller 2 it doesn't offer me profiles to select, just the one already selected by controller 1 with the chance to amend it.
Thanks for the suggestion - anything else I can try?
The controllers seem set up ok - like you say in order from top left, my problem is just getting the xbox to have 2 of us on before a game has even been put in! Can you be really specific of how I go from logging on one person and then adding on another please - I'm really new to this (we've only had a wii before!)
Thanks for your help - I'll try this out later - fingers crossed!
It worked - thanks very much!
