Question about Acer TravelMate 8200 Notebook

1 Answer

New 6600 mAh battery won't charge

7800 mAh battery that came with computer doesn't hold charge after 2.5 years (understandable). Cannot find much except 6600 mAh for replacement. 2 of those charged, then discharged all the way; then they wouldn't charge back beyond what registered as 11%. Unplug the AC / charger, and comp died -- i.e. battery wasn't charged at all . 3rd replacement 6600 mAh won't even charge all the way up one time. Only registers 11% . Some diagnostic in Ubuntu shows old battery as "old or damaged" with 33% capacity. No such message with the replacement. Can 3 or more replacement batteries all be bad, or is there some known problem with the Acer Travelmate 8200 's charger?

Thank you for all the helpful ideas. We were able to find a 7800 mAh 9-cell battery, which is working perfectly. Turns out apparently the problem is with the 6600 mAh battery -- at least for my machine. Anyone with this same problem, or needing to replace their original battery -- I recommend looking for the Energy+ 7800 mAh battery, and not settle for the lower capacity one which may cause this problem.

  • Hi

Normally AC adapter problems are rare especially when your laptop working fine when plugged on it.

just confim the pin contact betwwn computer and battery (at laptop) is there any sign of kink or bend?

if one of the pin dented or squeezed, that is the causes but if it's ok it could be your battery.

2nd and 3rd Replacement of battery, can you confirm me that you are buying it from outsiders or from trusted store or have you ever opened the battery? did you buy from the same store/person?

Is the AC adapter the original that came with the laptop or is it a replacement?
Check the label on the laptop (on the bottom of the laptop) for the voltage and current requirements.
Check voltage output of the adapter with a multimeter, this voltage should be slightly higher that the voltage than what is shown on the adapter's label because there is no load on the adapter.
It could be that the current (amps) that the adapter is delivering less power than the laptop's requirements, whilst it can power the laptop it may not be sufficient to charge the battery fully.
Try charging the battery overnight by shutting down the laptop but leaving it connected to the mains. Then boot up the laptop in the morning and check the battery's charge state. If the battery is at or near full capacity, then the problem is a (part) faulty adapter.

High Quality VGP-BPS13 Battery,Replacement Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery 4800/ 5200/...

Laptop batteries, like all rechargeable battery packs, lose their charging capacity over time. Because new Laptop batteries are expensive, replacing the individual cells inside the battery casing can save a lot of money. However, rebuilding a battery sometimes does not work as expected, so it’s important to be willing to purchase a new laptop battery if the procedure fails.

1、Allow the laptop battery to run down completely. Turn off your laptop, then remove the battery. Write down the model number located on your battery to help identify the type of Li-ion replacement cells you need to purchase.
2、Split open a small section of the laptop battery pack (at the seam) with a screwdriver or craft knife. Continue to pry the plastic case loose moving around the outer edge until the entire top is free. This may take a bit of force.
3、Note the number of cells inside the case (usually four to eight). Write down the part number and voltage information printed on the cell casings. Draw a diagram showing the arrangement of the cells and how they are connected, or take a few photos to help with reassembly.
4、Purchase the correct number and type replacement batteries from online shop such as udtek.com, based on your battery model and cell specifications. Six Li-ion cells typically cost around $30 to $40.
5、Carefully remove each cell using a craft knife and wire cutters as necessary. Each battery pack is different, but the cells are usually wrapped in a plastic casing with metal contacts attached to one end. Lay the metal contacts, wires and casing material aside.
6、Use double-sided tape or a solder gun (only if necessary) to attach the metal contacts to the cells and circuit board. When finished, the old cells should be completely stripped (naked) and the new cells should look like the old ones as much as possible.
7、Place the new cells inside the case, referring to your diagram or photos if necessary. Glue the battery(Compaq DV6000 Battery) pack top back on. Charge the new battery for at least 24 hours before using it.
Tips & Warnings
Keep an eye on the new battery while it charges for the first time. If the contacts are not connected properly, the battery could overheat and cause damage to the laptop.

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.
Laptop batteries vary from laptop to laptop. i suggest you Google the Internet for a battery for your model laptop.

New battery 6600 mAh does not charge anymore

It is possible it is a bad battery again. Also could be a bad solder joint on the DC jack or bad AC adapter. To test power off and unplug the laptop, remove the battery. Now plug in the AC and power on the PC. If it comes on, gently wiggle the AC plug going into the PC. If it shuts off you have a bad DC jack solder joint. If it stays on the battery is probably bad or the battery connector on the PC. If the PC doesn't come on at all with just the AC gently wiggle the AC plug and tap the power button repeatedly. If it comes on briefly than off again it is the jack solder joint. If it doesn't come on at all then it's a safe bet the AC adapter is bad.

Battery not charging usually means its dying! If your battery under one year old, you can get replacement from Lenovo. If its older than three year old, its time to find a new battery!

When i pull out the power cord on my N150 plus the comp crashes, even though the battery is saying 100 per cent..any idea?

A lot of times this happens when the battery has gone bad and needs to be replaced. It might say 100%, but due to use (and sometimes just due to a faulty battery) the battery will charge less and less and eventually won't hold a charge at all. For example, when I first got my laptop a year and a half ago, I could get almost six hours out of a charge. Now I get almost twenty minutes. Unfortunately, I would say you need a battery. You can get one either from samsung (though you may have to call them, I couldn't find your battery on the site), Newegg.com, or ebay.com.

Some good tips for handling your new battery. First, if the computer's plugged in, remove the battery. Put it back in before you unplug it. This will prevent long-term wear on your battery. Secondly, it's good to regularly (I'd say yearly or so) let your computer "die" on battery (run it until the battery dies), then charge it completely THREE TIMES. This will "cycle" your battery. They say that with the newer batteries used nowadays this isn't an issue, because the new type of battery doesn't create the crystals like the older type does, but it can't hurt anything and I've noticed a difference when I do it.

I'm sorry about the bad news, but hopefully this will help!

I have dell inspiron 1100 with 6450 MAh battery which is death already, i am looking to buy new one, before doing it i would like to get some advise what is the difference between 4400 MAh, 5200 MAh, 6450...

MAH is short for Milli Amp Hr...
4400MAH battery - short time for the battery to discharge....it may work for 4 to 5 hrs....
7800MAH will work longer for say 8 to 10 hrs.....

also depends on what applications u use...if it contains many graphics and you keep watching movies then the working hrs gets further shorter....
hope this clarifies....offcourse...the 7800 will cost you more...than the 4400....
as far as what is suitable to you laptop check the mfg website or the manual that came with the notebook...some times...the power adpator also gives the battery specifications that must be used...

reg
let me know...
