Did you enable the wireless adapter.

Press FN + F2 on the keyboard to turn on the optional wireless Ethernet radio

I would suggest going to Start - Control Panel - System. See if there are any devices there that are yellow and that have no driver present yet. This can be related to your driver problem, if there is a supporting device on the mother board that doesn't ahve a driver installed. I suggest going to the gateway site and downloading all of the system utilities and drivers for things like "chipset" and "sound", etc., and install those first. Then retry your Intel proset wireless installation and see if you can find a network.

Intel wireless drivers for Gateway 450ROG

Recently ran into an issue where someone did not have all the original materials for their laptop. One of the issues was the wireless NIC acting up. The drivers were kind of a pita to locate so I figured I'd post a link here to the Intel drivers.

I reinstalled winxp sp3 on a gateway 450 rog. I was able to install all the drivers except the network controller and it also won't recognize the wireless adapter, any thoughts or ideas?

I had the same problem.
The "Network Controller" in my case had to do with the wireless network driver on my 450ROG.
None of the drivers that are available for 450ROG on the Gateway Support site worked correctly.
Here's what I did to solve the problem:
1. Flip the computer over. 2. On the back, you may see a little module that says "Fitted with Intel WM3B2100 802.11b". That's the built-in wireless network card (had no idea this computer had one, I inherited it). 3. Go to the Intel support site: 4. Do a search for the "WM3B2100" driver. 5. Download and install the driver.
Fixed it for me!

Internal wifi can be enabled but wont find connections. My network adapter is updated to the max,so im thinking its a windows configuration problem.I tried using an external wifi usb adapter but it did not...

when was the last time you're connected to the internet using wireless???have you downloaded the latest driver for 802.11???was ur comp able to detect a network???

- if not try to uninstall and reinstall the driver for 802.11
- check the wireless switch then press Fn+F5
- try also to remove ur network if able to detect then manually add it
- if not detecting any networks try to check WLAN Autoconfig @ services.msc at command prompt or run(general tab - start up type should be auto and service status should started
- then first, second and subsequent failure should restart the service under recovery tab
- check ur ipaddress it should something

Computer crashes

A few things can cause this.
  • Shorted wireless card
  • Weak power plug/connection
  • Weak regulator (inside the computer)
  • Hardware driver issues. You should get a blue screen
Having done a restore eliminates the bad driver really. So we should expect one of the others. If it is a weak power supply, connector it should shutdown when using the cd drive
Try another wireless card if possible.

Reinsalled windows xp on toshiba notebook -- now wireless won't work.

Hi Matt,

When you try to connect wirelessly to your network did get any pop up message like asking you for a network key WPA/WEP? if your wireless network is security enabled then you need to enter the security settings again on the computer since you re-installed XP the security settings that was saved previously was also wiped out.
May I know the exact model number of wireless router/access point that your trying to connect your laptop so that I can provide you with instructions on how to retrieve the security key.
