Question about Panasonic KX-FP85 Plain Paper Thermal transfer Fax

1 Answer

I can't use the fax machine

I recently tried to setup my fax machine. I plugged in the power cable & I detached my home telephone line & plugged it at the back of the fax machine. I turned it on & it became on. On the screen, it reads: Check Film. So I am not sure where to touch as I don't wanna do anything stupid. Can you give me a solution(s) to what might be the problem here.

Re: I can't use the fax machine

This machine uses carbon film instead of toner (for laser machines) or ink (for inkjet machines) for printing. It's telling you that either there's no carbon film in the machine, or it's ran out. It sounds like you'll be better off to take the machine to an office equipment place and ask if they could suplly the film and be kind enough to show you how to install it into the machine.

Am trying to send a fax on brother 575. I placed the paper face down -- dialed the telephone number and pressed fax start. The receive messages comes up on my machine and the fax does not go...

My first assumption would be, since this appears to be a new fax machine for you, to ensure that the telephone line is plugged into the correct port on the fax machine. There are usually two ports, a telephone port and a line port, you want the telephone line to be plugged into the "line" port.

Let me know.

I can not get a clear dail tone.

Unplug your fax line and plug in a basic telephone and see if you can get a clear dial tone. If its still bad with just a telephone plugged in then your problem is either within your building or with the outside line...if its ok with a telephone then the line is ok and you may have a dad cable plugging into your fax machine or something wrong with the fax machine itself.

Need to set up machine was given as gift

There are two ways to use a fax machine in your home or office. You can either have a standalone fax machine, or you can use your computer for this purpose. Either way, setup is very simple. You don't even have to be a tech guru to do it. First, decide if you'd like to have a separate phone line for your faxes so they don't interrupt communications at the office. If so, have the phone company install the line before you get started with fax setup.
Setting Up a Traditional Machine
  • Step 1.Set your fax machine on a flat and even surface. Plug the power cord into the wall. Fill the paper tray and slide it into the front of the machine.
  • Step 2.Plug one end of a standard phone cable into the phone jack and the opposite end into the port on the fax machine. It's usually on the back or the side.
  • Step 3.Turn on the machine and pick up its telephonemag-glass_10x10.gif. If you don't hear a dial tone, check your phone cable to make sure it's secure. Then turn to the LCD screen and start programming your options. Since all machines are different, see the instructions in the owner's manual.

It seems that your fax machine has been damaged by a power "spike" You may or may not be able to get it to work again. You can try to re sequence the machine, by switching off, then removing both the power cord and the telephone cord from the wall. Wait 30 secs or so, then plug in the power cord and switch on. After the machine shows the "ready" mode in the display, then plug in the telephone cord. If this does not work, your machine is toast. Make sure in future to use a line conditioner for both the power and the telephone lines.

Fax machine wont send or reiceve

Check to see if you have a dial tone. If not, plug a regular home phone into the jack in the wall and see if you can call it or dial out. You might have a dead phone line.

    Send or recived fax

1st of all do check that the telephone line cord is plugged into the correct jack in the machine. It needs to be in the jack marked "line." not the jack marked "Tel."

Further questions need to be addressed, such as :Is this a recently acquired machine? or Has the machine been disconnected from the power for any length of time? or Has the machine been moved to a different location?

    Can't fax

You probably have the telephone cord patched into the wrong jack. Make sure it is plugged into the jack marked "line." If the problem persists, try doing this: 1. Unplug the power cord and the telephone line cord. Then wait for 30 sec or so before 1st plugging in the powercord. Wait until the display reads the currently set time, then plug the telephone line cord into the jack marked "line."
