Question about BenQ Joybook 5000 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a BENQ JoyBook Lite U101. For serveral days I had my monitor output connected to a HP L1706 monitor. Yesterday I tried to connect my video output in our boardroom - however the output from the laptop was not recognized by the monitor. Now that I've returned to my office - the output to the HP monitor was flawed (wrong dimentions) and my attempt to fix it has only resulted in the HP monitor not recognziing the input at all. Can you help? Is there a known problem with video output from the BENQ Joybook? Thanks

It sounds like the video card could not handle the monitor in the board room - As it is unless you have a graphics based laptop you rarely get a high quality video card built into your laptop.

Causes aside boot your computer in safe mode - This is done by tapping F8 several times during startup

A menu should pop up - select boot in safe mode

A long list of text will pass in front of the monitor - Do not fret this is just Windows telling you what it is loading.

Once at your desktop you should be able to see everything clearly

Right click on your desktop

Goto Properties

Settings

Drag the Screen Resolution down to something more appropriate e.g. 1024 x 768

I think you'll find that the NumLock was left on when you disconnected the external keyboard, and numbers (shown on the laptop keys in blue on the right side of the keyboard) are in use instead of the normal characters. Just press the NumLock key, usually near the top right of the keyboard.

Yes, you need to press the key combination for your laptop to direct the video output through the external VGA port. It varies by laptop, but it usually involves the use of the Function (Fn) key and another key like F4...look for a picture of a screen in the same color as your function key.

I recommend to get a external CD Drive that has a USB connection that should work fine to your notebook.
