DRUM NOT SPINNING....and a burning smell

My hotpoint ctd00 tumble dryer drum spins very slowly...or not at all, then you get a electrical burning smell... had the side off, and its not the belt slipping, as the motor fails to turn....but it does turn by hand... its almost like the drum if sticking??

I have a hotpoint VTD00 tumble dryer and it is heating up but the drum isn't spinning and smells of burning. Thanks, Annmarie

The belt is probably worn out and is slipping, the smell is from the belt slipping on the drum.

My ctd40g tumble dryer has recently started smoking and the drum is no longer spinning, can you help?

Your dryer motor might been short circuited and the motor needs to be rewind or replaced.

My dryer flew off of a dolly when loading it on a trailer to move it. It smells like rubber is burning when I turn the dryer on. It was working fine until we moved the dryer. Could it be the belt is loose?

If the dryer fell some distance, the drum is probably out of alignment.

If the drum is not spinning at all, something has jammed the drum and the belt is being overheated by the motor pulley.

If the drum is spinning and there is a rubber smell, the drum has been knocked off of its rollers and/or glides.

In either case, the dryer needs to be opened. Click the link below:

Hi, My Hotpoint CTD00 Condenser Tumble dryer makes a thudding sound with every revolution, sometimes it sounds like a pair of trainers are in there! What could be the problem?

Could be a worn drive belt, or more likely to be a worn rear drum bearing, common prob with dryers, you need to remove top cover, and look for anything obvious.

How do I replace bearing on a CTD00 Hotpoint tumble dryer

front bearing on drum felt bearing the whole front has to be removed from machine .. if felt back bearing same applies .. if the plastic drum bearing guides this can be done by removing side panel .... always disconnect from mains before attempting any repair

Tumble dryer makes whine noise but doesnt spin

Sounds like the drive belt has gone, and the noise you can hear is the motor going round.
The red glow you can see, will be the heater element glowing..
To check the belt, remove top cover, and you will be able to see if the belt is on or not, if you can see it round the drum, try to lift it up, if it has not broken, then you will not be able to remove it, and that means the motor or drum could be siezed, try to turn the drum by hand, it should be fairly stiff to turn, but not that stiff that you cannot turn it at all.

Please rate my fixya solution.
Thanks.

Hotpoint condenser dryer ctd00

change the drive belt. evidently the belt has stretched to the point the belt tensioning device can no longer do its job. when you change the belt make a diagram of which way the belt is reaved through the tensioning device. if you don't you'll be back here asking how to arrange the belt.

Condensing tumble dryer not running

has the belt shredded and wrapped itself around the shaft? try to manually rotate the drum to see if the belt is free and the motor shaft moves. it sounds like the motor is stuck and the smell is the uncirculated heat at the back. let me know your results.
taking the lid off will gain access.
