Collapse in graphical view and hang!

Hi,
I have been use my D630 since march 2008. Last month I faced a problem with it. When I was working, suddenly the graphical screen changes to a Green Collapsed Form with vertical lines and the computer hanged. Also When I had to preparing a Force Shut Down, in boot time, It didn't have any image instead dark screen but the windows was starting up. And When I connected it to an external monitor it showed a 4 bit color with very low resolution but my graphic card had been just installed and worked in device manager in windows. The problem solved when i restart again. but from that time until now, I face this problem sometimes and therefore I can not trust to my laptop anymore. Please help me if you can understand the problem.
Regards.

OK. I think I should explain the problem more. I did not change any of graphic card or it's driver. The laptop just suddenly hangs and screen goes to a green color fixed and collapsed shape image of the latest windows screen with vertical dash lines. It needs a force shut down and when it begins to reboot, the LCD goes on but I can just see a dark black image. Even the boot screen (the first image in boot process) is not shown but I can understand that the windows is starting up and the laptop is working. In this situation, when I connect it to an external monitor, a very bad quality image is shown and the rest is like to which I explained before. Therefor I myself think that it must be a hardware problem (because it doesn't show any image even boot screen which is not related to any windows software or driver). But I can not recognize which hardware has problem and what can I do? Please help me if you can.
    Regards

I have exactly he same issue on a D630 manufactured on Feb 2007, but it only started with this problem a couple of months ago. I tried upgrading the BIOS, rolling back the NVIDIA QUADRO drivers, even loading Vista on Safe Mode with basic video drivers, but the problem is definitely on the hardware since we get that even during the initial boot stages before the OS loads. What is sad is that apparently hundreds of other D630 users reported the same problem but Dell doesn't even mention it anywhere on their website. I believe a recall was in order...

You say you replaced the graphics card?
Either way, this is one of two things. Hardware (a faulty display card) or drivers. If it is an old card, or you did a driver update recently, go to your device manager, and roll back to your previous drivers. if this doesn't solve the problem I recommend getting the latest drivers for your display card, installing them and seeing what happens.

Hope this solves your problem!

Ok, in that case it might be the backlight of the laptop? or the screen itself... or even the display adapter. Is it still under warranty? send it in to the suppliers. if it isn't under waranty, or even if it is, but the fault isn't covered it'll cost you some money. in South-Africa ussually between R2000 - R5000. I'm not sure, but i think it will be cheaper in the US, since no parts have to be imported. So... $100 - $450? don't know.

Assuming the graphics drivers are up to date and assuming you have a high resolution set in the display on the control panel, the screen may be damaged or the VGA cable damaged. In extreme cases the onboard chip may be loosning from the motherboard. You cannot install an external graphics card on this laptop. I would check the above and see if the existing setup can be repaired economically
