Question about Kenmore Elite 45986 Front Load Washer

The fabric softner drains out as soon as I pour it in

I am just wondering when should the fabric softner drain during the wash cycle because, currently it drains as soon as I pour it in. As a matter of fact it drains faster then the detergent, Is this how it's suppose to be? And if not, how do I fix it?

You are right. I was pouring more into the dispenser to compensate for the fabric softner draining out. Next load I wash I will try filling it only to the line.

    Thanks onthejob5130!

My question is this..why doesnt my clothes smell like fabric softner?? They dont smell at all..like i never put anything in there...and the fabric softner compartment never fully drains of its water what...

The fabric softener may be unscented.

The softener compartment is flushed during the wash cycle to clear it completely, therefore some water remains at the end.

Htwp1200doww where does fabric softner go

You have to do it manually. Ugh. See below from manual:

Liquid Fabric Softener (Manually add during rinse cycle)
1. Turn OPTIONS knob to FABRIC SOFTENER
2. Measure liquid fabric softener carefully, following instructions on the bottle, and add during the rinse cycle.

OPTIONS (on some models)
Set this option when planning to manually add fabric softener during the rinse cycle or when you use extra detergent or bleach to clean hazily soiled items. It provides an enhanced rinse.

How to add fabric softner to the amana washer with locking lid

Check and see if there is a cup in the top of the agitator. Some machines have you put it there, turning back and forth during wash doesn't bother it, but the spin to empty the wash water causes the softener to go out through slots in the top of the cup and be held in the agitator. when it stops the softener drains into the tub, ready for the rinse cycle.

Water collects in the fabric softner dispenser during in the washing and doesn't drain. We have to pour it out vbefroe washing the next load.

Take the dispenser out the washer and clean it very good.
Pull the caps off and make sure no fabric softner is hanging around the hole. The unit uses a siphon effect to drain the compartments.
It's normal to have some water left over tho. Just not full of water.

Takes almost 2 hours to complete a wash cycle

Have you ever cleaned it out? Its likely due to a plugged drain, not allowing the system to drain fast enough for the normal cycle. Check out my solution on

Fabric Softner not leaving dispenser

Run some vinger through it. Fabric Softner leaves a filmy residue that can clog it up.

Fabric softner

Remove the dispenser tray. Inspect the area just above the fabric softener portion of the dispenser. There should be a series of holes where water feeds into the tray during the rinse cycle. Sometimes these holes become clogged with fabric softener residue. If the holes are clogged, water will never dispense the fabric softener out and it will stay in the tray. If you take some cotton swabs and meticulously clean all the holes out, I bet your problem will go away. Let me know if this was helpful to you.
