PV 1500 Amplifier

I would start by checking that the cooling fans are not obstructed, or dirty. It sounds like the amplifier is running right on the edge of thermal cut off (100 degrees for this amp) and when it switches off, rises just above this when the fan stops spinning, not allowing the amp to start again.

I am however just speculating, I've only had a quick look at the schematic.

I'd recommend having the amplifiers serviced by a qualified person, so they can adjust the idle current and check for any bigger problems. Good luck.

are you using the 1/4 in jacks or the balanced inputs.

PV series power amplifiers common issue, i suggest that before you go to spend tons of hard-earned money to a tech shop go to radio shack, buy a cleaner spray solution and clean ALL the back switches, including Stereo/Bridge switch, then check the two green light light up at front and verify functionality as well, let me know your results.

Look under "Downloads" tab at bottom for owners manual info. In a nutshell...mic to mixer channel #1, mixer connected to power amplifier, amplifier connected to speakers. Start with zero volumes on all equipment, bring up amps 1st (1/2 volume) and then adjust mixer until sound is heard from the microphone.

Suspect that the pot is broken, or start cleaning all the back switches, this pv amps suffer from a terrible switch quality.

First of all confirm if the speaker impedance is not lower then the recommended Ohms at the back of the Mixer speaker socket.You can use an 8 Ohms speaker on a 4 Ohms amplifier but not vise versa .
Next see if the fan on the mixer works. If not the Amp is getting very hot and this will lead to unwanted distortion. You can confirm if its a heat related issue by playing the mixer at low volumes for more than an hour and see if it distorts.

One side of the amp has failed and repair is NOT DIY. Take it in for servicing. This amp has many components in the power amp and repair is complicated. A failure can lead to 20 components being damaged. Failure to replace all damaged ones can result in immediate failure destroying the replaced ones.

Your best bet is to request a service manual from Peavey itself. These are usually available for around $20 or so. Call Peavey and ask for the service parts department and make your request there. They are very helpful and should be able to assist you.

Each channel is protected separately. I suspect that the outputs are fried on the right side or the output fuse has blown. This should be checked by a service shop.
