You do not mention your OS but much 32-bit software will not run on a 64-bit processor. You must get 64-bit version. Some times having a dual booted system with a 32-bit OS will allow sporadic use of a peripheral. Sometimes just the presence of 64-bit processor will phreek out the software and cause partial execution and the kind of message you are seeing. I have exactly the same problem and there are some things i can work around and some not.

How do i unblock the firewall on my computer? im trying to sign into my windows live mesenger. but it says that i have a firewall... so how do i unblock it?

The firewall will not block the messenger unless it is out from the exceptions list or you have an anti-virus with a separate firewall..and this is blocking it ..
for to see whats on the windows firewall...go to the control panel from the start menu ..and in there you will find the firewall icon ...Double click on it ..and either disable it (not indicated cause you will be exposed to the workgroup computers..) or ...click on the exceptions...and in the list look for the windows live messenger and tick the case for to be added as an exception..After that will be ok ..
If it is not on the list ..click to add exception ..and browse for the execution of the messenger into the C /program files/windows live ..and add it to exceptions ..and also be sure it is ticked..

Then in the command prompt type sfc scannow it will ask for the win xp cd for xp and for vista or 7 it automatically scans and fixes the system file errors.Let me know if still the errors are there.

Windows live messenger sign in error code 81000306

That means Windows Live Messenger is unable to contact the authentication server.

Open up Live Messenger and go to Tools and go to Options. Under Connection Settings, choose Advanced Settings. Make sure there are nothing in the proxy fields. Make sure the SOCKS area has nothing in it and click okay until you get back to the Messenger window and try to sign in.

If that doesn't work and you are running Windows Vista, click start, type: cmd, right-click cmd.exe when it appears under Applications, click Run As Administrator, type the following: "netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled", rress enter, restart your computer”

Hope this helps!
