I bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas. I didn't bother installing the software that came with the player. Windows Media Player automatically recognised the device allowing me to transfer music to it.

It sounds like the download removed the existing software.
I would open control panel, then click add or remove programs, then click on itunes. see if there is a repair option with the installer. sometimes there is, but if not, then uninstall it, but keep your saved files.
Then re-install it, and when it sets up, it should still accept your old saved files. That way you don't have to recopy you music, games or videos
The 'error 2" is saying that when you clicked on the icon, there was no file remaining in your system that matched what the program was that was assigned to that icon.
You can find out what the program was, and its location by right clicking on the icon, and then click on properties.

Head to the game company's website and see if there is a patch or an update for the game. It seems like a hardware to software issue. Reinstall the game, restart the computer (even if youre not told to do so), then look for a patch. If there is one, follow the instructions to install it, and restart after installing the patch. DO NOT TRY TO RUN THE GAME until all of this is done first.

Double clicking on the icon and getting an hour glass only was what I encountered this morning. You need to go out and buy a graphic card. I got 128 mb for $50 installed at the store on the spot. First thing to check is to make sure your computer is compatible with the system requirements of the Barbie Girl. This sounds as if the Barbie Girl program is very old and you are using it on a very new computer. I've had this happen to me on vista with old windows 95 programs. Check your system requirements for that software, if it was designed for windows 95 it might not work. There might be a way to get it working in a compatibility mode which I can help you with, but first make sure your sys reqs are good. What version of windows?
