The answer is yes and no, up until March 2009 ABIT still testing some of Quad CPUs.
The most important things to remember are, socket type and BIOS update. You can go for all CPUs you can find as long using the same Socket, thats the point of different sockets, the compatibility is determined that way at the manufacturer level ( Intel n AMD ). The other is BIOS update, older BIOS might not recognize nor even support the CPU, this is more important than the socket type since you know you can put them in as long its a LG-775 CPU. So check the MBoard manufacturer to see if they have the latest CPUs recognized in their BIOS.
Don't be confused by the other answer about frying your MB due to power overload, it just a misleading, remember that some old CPU like Pentium with Prescott in them have TDP of 115 Watt while newer Quad like Q9550S with Yorkfield in them have TDP of only 65 Watt.

You should really check these things first or consult the motherboard documentation which lists in great detail what the board supports

Get yourself a new manual if youve lost the one that came with it

ftp://ftp.abitshop.com/pub//manual/english/ip-95.zip

And to answer your problem , no you cant have a quad core

your specification says

"CPU - LGA775 Socket for Intel Core 2 Duo/ Pentium D/ Pentium 4/ Celeron D/ Celeron Processors with 1066 MHz FSB - Supports Intel Hyper-Threading Technology "

It would say "Intel Core 2 Quad" if you could

Try powering it up and it will probably either:-

a)Overheat
b)Spark and set on fire if theres not enough cooling
c) Cause a power cut , Quad cores take more power than the boards designed to support , otherwise they would have said i t supported quad cores.
d)Fry up the motherboard , making it useless
e)Fry up the processor , making it useless
f) all of the above

Intel core 2 Quad Q6600 compatible with ECS P4M800PRO-M2

According to their website, no. The core 2 duo is supported, but not quad core. http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?DetailID=674&CategoryID=1&MenuID=16&LanID=0
Look under the cpu tab.

Is the intel core 2 quad compatible with my ddr2 memory

Hello.

The motherboard ASUS P5KPL-AM SE is compatible with DDR-2 no matter what processor you are using, even Intel Core 2 Quad. So if that is your motherboard, then it is compatible.

Dell Dimension 4300 PC Processor upgrade

if the sci36-r13 is the stock mobo that came with that pc it isnt worth upgrading
pentium 4's use the LGA-775 socket this is compatible with all pentiums and core 2's (not includeing core i7), so you could put in a core 2 quad if you wanted to but it would not make much difference to performance because your motherboard would not be able to handle some of the fetures
your ram would also reduce preformance

if you wanted to upgrade that computer you would have to replace everything but maybe the case

Will this CPU be compatible with this MOBO?

Okay your Processor is not supported by your System Board. I will take some time and look to see what would be a good upgrade, but it may take a few days.

Abit IP95 Mobo fails to power up.

Ok, try connecting just one thing at a time - start of with just your board and the power supply... still smell burning? There's probably an issue with the power supply - no fans & leds would indicate this too (can you hear anything when you power up?)

What cooling have you been using - weird quetion, but is there any chance there could be moisture on the board? (either from water cooling or from condensation in the room)
