Yes if the ignitor has a very small crack on it it will not work replace it and see if it works but do not touch the end that glows when you put it in as the grease from your finger s will stop it working

Goodman gmp100-3 furnace The furnace will not start when I turn power on. It will hum but no click. The status light is solid red. Could the ignitor be bad? And what color should it be?

You should hear the ignitor pop. If you don't hear that pop sound, then the igniter is bad. They are easy to change, just make sure you turn the gas off and the pit-cock into the appliance and take a photo of exactly where the igniter tip is oriented so you can put the new one in the same spacing to have it ignite properly. The status light should be green when the furnace is 'On.'

Furnace starts up blower starts..nothing ignites...then shuts down. repeats and doesnt stop...sanded igniter stick and nothing happend. flashes red once.

Do you see the actual ignitor glow? You must be saying that you sanded the sensor. The ignitor, after the little inducer fan comes on will begin to glow a bright orange until the burner lights. If the ignitor is broken, you will NOT see a glow, and you may smell a faint smell of gas.

Check your conection off the board to the initor and make sure the pins in the plug are set tight with the connection on the board. If you wire nutted the wiring together for the new ignitor you installed check these connection also. Make sure all wire strands at the wire nuts are in the wire nut and not touching or arching on the furances cabinate.

Hello, I have the Goodman gas furnace that has an igniter. I will not light the flame. I was told that it was probably the board. So I went to a heat and air dealer and they sold me a new board, I...

Yes an igniter can go bad, unfortunately most furnace dealers will not return the board so you now have a spare. Pay attention to detail when changing the igniter out. Not knowing what style of igniter I can not give you tips on placement. The glowing type are very fragile they break when you look hard at them. The spark type it is important you have a clean direct spark at the pilot gas tube outlet and gapping the spark is critical. Ask your parts supplier for added tips they will know them all.

Goodman GMP075-3 not igniting. Everything cycles as it should but HSI does not glow. Thermostat is set to heat, temp approximately 10 to 15 degrees higher than room temp, blower motor starts, relay clicks...

The flash code is due to the furnace not proving flame 3 times in a row. If you have a multimeter you can ohm the ignitor out to see if it is good. Depending on the type (silicon Nitride or silicon Carbide) you can verify if it is good. A silicon Nitride ignitor looks like a small thin straight bar type will ohm @ 11 - 18 ohms, a carbide ignitor looks kinda like a tuning fork (sorta) will typically ohm @ 40 - 92 ohms. anything outside of those ranges will require a replacement.

Goodman GMP075-3 ignition problem

OK, if the furnace is not lighting for even a few seconds, you have either a bad gas valve, bad wire, bad control module or no gas. The pressure switch is not the issue. Check all wires to the gas valve and look for 24 volts across them when the ignitor glows and you hear the click. Then test for 24 volts to ground. It could be a bad ground wire.
