Question about GE Dryers

1 Answer

Dryer won't turn on all of a sudden. confirmed power is okay.

Is there an internal fuse or something. It is about 15 years old and is the heavy duty front loading model. End of cycle buzzer will sound but nothing else happens. Dryer doesn't get a lot of use.

Soubnds like the Start capasitor or start winding inside of the motor if it has no capasitor are going out .Replace capasitor , if it has one or replace motor if it does not. The other , less likely posibility is that the starter switch is going out. you can carefully jump out the switch with a wire from the back, when it is not working to see if it is the switch.   If it has that start capasitor i talked of they can be tested with an ohm meter. The values are printed on them. The mortor itself can also be tested with an ohm meter, but if you look at it closely or try to spin it by hand I am fairly sure you will see that it has a problem already.

Admiral heavy duty super capacity dryer won't heat up.

see this causes , fix it. God bless you, use the common sense
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? If you plug something else into the outlet, does it work? If not, check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker.

Door Switch

If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch. Check for continuity you should have none with door open, and should have a reading when closed. If not replace the door switch.

Thermal Fuse / Thermal Cut out

On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse (a heat-sensitive fuse that blows if the dryer overheats) mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel or behind the front panel. The fuse is about an inch long. It's usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing or is sometimes round and made of metal and plastic.

If the fuse has blown, it has no continuity. When this happens, your dryer either just stops heating, or it doesn't work at all. Be sure to inspect the venting/heating system before replacing the fuse this is the most common reason for blowing the fuse. (You can't re-set this type of fuse.)

Wiring

Often the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, burns and the connection breaks. In this has happened to your dryer, you need to replace the power cord and the terminal block inside the dryer to which the wire is attached.

First you need to try the fuse, fit a new one ,Next is power okay going to the drier, could be thse door switch not making proper contact, it should click,if you have a multimeter/AVO you can check this quite simply...Good luck

I have model #MDE6400AYW - my dryer does not turn on. I have confirmed the power source works, the vent is clear, I have replaced the timer, and even confirmed that both thermal fuses work yet my dryer...

Hello, I will assume this is a electric dryer where the drum turns but no heat, your problem most likely is the centrifigal switch. this is built into the motor. Basically its operation is to not switch the heater2.gif on unless the motor is turning. By the sound of things you are compitent with electrical side of appliances. Remove the wire harness for the motor. Make up a wire bypass using 2 male connectors and some heavy duty wire. plug each end of this bypass into the wire harness where you see the 2 thick wires. Next making sure the harness is not touching anything metal plug her in and hit the start button, check to see if the heater starts to glow or you can smell it heating up...if it does heat up your going to need to change the motor. If this is not your problem please don't down rate me, feel free to comment again and I will give you further help. Mike

Kenmore dryer does not turon on

CHECK THE FOLLOWING---

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Check your model for more details.

3. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

4. Timer/control
Replace if defective (note: uncommon problem).
