Question about Dell Dimension 2400 PC Desktop

On booting up, computer can not load keyboard system.

I have a Dell 2400 desktop computer, that cannot load the keyboard system upon booting up. Problem started a few weeks ago, when I started to type my pass word in hotmail. I bought this computer new in 2003 and had not any problem until now. I tried different keyboards, but with NO success. All keyboards has PS2 plug. I purchase a new keyboard with USB connection. I found that if I connect both keyboards, the USB keyboard works great, but if I disconnect the keyboard with PS2 plug, USB keyboard won't work. Also, with both keyboard attached, the key board with PS2 plug is still dead. Upon booting up, there is beeps. I think there is one long beep and two short beeps. I am writing to you with the Dell 2400 that has this problem. Do you any idea, whats cause this ??

One possible problem is that your PS2 keyboard port at the back of your PC is ruined. In time, those so called "outlets" become loose specially the ones with cables which usually got pulled or tangled and make the port strained and the contacts get loose.
If that is the case, you might need to replace the keyboard port, or just stick with your usb keyboard.

Dell dimension 3000 keyboard freezes up on bios options

I would try this, unplug the computer from the wall, reopen the case and you should see a small "watch" battery on the motherboard. This allows the computer to save the bois when there is no power. Pull the battery out, now before doing anything else; hold the power button in on the front of the computer for about 30 seconds. Let the computer set for a couple of hours (the bois at this point should be cleared, by I have seen were you have to leave the computer sit, so I added this). Put the battery back in the computer, turn it on and try to get into your bois setting. It accually should come up with an error to enter the bois because the date and time are way wrong.

Hope this works for you

Your computer cannot find a boot-able storage device, i.e. hard disk drive, to boot from. Either your hard disk drive is defective or the OS (operating system software) is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

try tapping the F12 key over and over when you see the DELL Screen to bring you to the boot menu....with your CD in choose to boot from the CD and it should allow you to run the OS installation from there.....your machine is trying to boot from the hard drive that has no OS on it.

When you first start your computer how do get it to read the disc first?

You go into Boot Menu, and set the - first boot device to CDROM.
The computer will then read what is in the optical drive, first.

Computer off, press the Power On button. Watch closely for the blue dell logo.
Looking at the bottom of the monitor screen when the blue Dell logo comes up, you will see - F2 = Setup.
At the top right of the screen you will see F12 = Boot Menu.

This screen goes by F-A-S-T!
As SOON as you see the blue Dell logo press the F12 key.

If you miss this small window of opportunity, just wait for Windows to fully load, then click on Start, Turn Off Computer, and Restart.

If Windows is not loading, then press the CTRL, ALT, and DELete keys at the SAME TIME. (Not shouting)
This will restart your computer so you can try again.

Upon entering Boot Menu you cannot use your mouse anymore, you have to use the keyboard.

The Boot Device Menu has the devices listed, and each device has a number next to it.

At the bottom of the menu, type the number that is next to CDROM, then press the Enter key.

This is Dell Support, and the main page for the Dell Dimension 4700 Service Manual,

Left-click on - Entering System Setup

Should you have any questions concerning this, simply state so in a Comment.

Power safe mode on my monitor, i have dimension 2400 series

After starting the computer start tapping F8 for advanced options, select " Last Known Good Configuration" with the keyboard and hit enter. If this does not resolve the issue than once again boot to the Advanced Options and get into safe mode.

Click on Start > All Programs > Accesories > System Tootls > System Restore and than click on next after selecting Restore Select a date which is in bold and on that day your computer should be working fine, after selecting the date click on next till the system starts the restoring. System will restart, Should work out.

Can't get pass the background screen when pc load

The sequence is:
a) The Dell bios splash screen is displayed,
b) the screen will go black,
c) the disk activity light will flash for about 5 - 7 seconds, then will remain off.
d) you force a power off,
e) wait a few seconds,
f) then turn the machine back on.
g) The bios splash screen is displayed,
h) then a black screen with white text is displayed, reporting that Windows was not shut down nicely and would I like to boot into safe mode or safe mode with networking, or others.
g1) If you choose Safe Mode, Windows will boot up successfully. If I restart, the computer will usually (probably) boot into Windows fine.
g2) If you choose Boot Normally, the computer will usually (probably) enter the black and hung state.
see if that helps and the if possible do a do a system restore to when the system was working correctly.

Reset my dell computer

Do a system restore with the system and driver cd's that came with the computer. It will delete everything that is on the drive and restore it like new. If you added any new cards ( graphic ) or any different hardware that the pc came with, remove first, then boot from cd to reinstall windows and drivers. Then reinstall any hardware that might have been added. Also, disconnect any USB plug like printer or scanner. Just have mouse, keyboard, monitor attached.
