Re: Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Driver could be corrupt. Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud

Check the feed switch, you can put paper in the bottom tray or the top feeder and you press the feed switch to change from one to the other, when the rollers are dirty and paper doesn't pick up you also get that error.
This is an error message which refers to the position of the paper feed unit,or if the sensors that detect the paper is malfunctioning.
Take out all the papers, fan them a little and also unplug the power cord from the printer Now,press the power button on the printer and hold it for 15 sec,to perform a power flee.
turn on the printer put,the papers back and check if it works out
it is possible to fix if you have 3 to 4 hours to kill, you have to dissasemble
the printer completley and split the main unit inside into two(sheet feed and
cassette feeder) they are connected by 4 screws, correct the timing(marks in
red) on the gears auto sheet feeder and cassette feeder on both units and and
rotate the cam shaft assembly to the start position
The service manual says this for ##357:
ASF paper feed (AP) position error.
##357 ASF paper feed (AP) position error
Cause: An error occurs at the AP positioning in the ASF (Auto Sheet Feeder) unit.
Solution: (1) To reboot, press [OK] button or turn off and then on the power.
(2) Replace the SHEET FEED ***’Y.
(3) Replace the SPCNT board.
what happens when you make a copy from the glass (bot the doc feeder), or a print..
if this happens only when using the Doc Feed.
Look at the Slit_Glass, if there is drit on it, clean it, and try again?
Could also be the ink is leaking in the machine? clean the ink cartridges and where the Ink Cartridges are inserted.
Normally this can be caused by
1.) damaged gears
2.) damaged feeder motor
3.) damaged paper holder(the pins that grab the paper)
in any of the above cases you will need to take apart to see what the problem is.. if its the motor then you can change it..
if it with the feeder it self id suggest you consider buying a ney one,, even if you manage to change the gears or the feeder pins you may never be able to get it to pull correctly, eighter pulling twisted or constantly causing paper jams.. The choice is your but i'd say buy a new one
