Pioneer DV-C36 disc tray will not stay open

I have a Pioneer DV-C36 Multi-disc DVD Player, when I hit the open/close button, the disc tray comes out, then goes right back in. I have held the tray open, but that's not a good permanent solution. Is there a way to fix this myself, like is there a loose switch or something in there? The unit is about 7 years old now. Thanks for any help.

Im having the exact same problem, with the same unit. I took the lid off to watch the inner mechanisms working, but couldn't see anything that meant anything to me, anyway.

Same problem. Door opens then shuts immediately before a disk can be loaded or unloaded. Unit plays disks fine after a disk is put in, usually by holding the door open with force.

Exact same problem: Tray opens and immediately closes. You can use arm muscles to keep it open long enough to throw a DVD on, but this is not a long-term solution. I removed the shell to watch inside and saw nothing mechanically wrong. It started doing this in about 2006. It has been lightly used in one position in a smoke-free home, and is otherwise perfect.

Same here, when you push the open/close button the tray opens and then immediately starts to close. I have been able to get the tray to stay open without the use of manual force. Sometimes I have to hold the button down instaed of pushing it.

Same problem here. I continue to push the open/close button and it will eventually stay open but it's real annoying. has no one come up a solution?

Solution for Pioneer DV-C36 Multi Disk DVD player - tray door will not stay open.

My player would open the disk tray when the open button was press but when the tray was fully open it would retract
back into the unit leaving no time to change or load disks.
I found a poor connection at the ribbon cable connector was causing this problem. A seven conductor ribbon cable
connects the main unit with the travelling tray. A position switch (S21) senses when the tray is fully extended and retracted.
On my player pin 1 of the ribbon cable connector on the travelling tray was not making an electrical connection which
causes the control system to retract the tray. The fault lies in the connector - the tang was not pressing against the ribbon cable conductor.
I was able to desolder the connector and pull the contact out just far enough to reform the tang with fine needle nose pliers.
This is very tedious and required an eye loupe for magnification.
Tools required:
#1 and #2 phillips screwdrivers
Soldering and desoldering irons (or other desoldering tools)
Fine needle nose pliers.

Remove the tray ribbon cable
1. Remove the cabinet cover - 6 screws. Open the tray. To keep the tray from retracting pull the power cord when the tray is extended.
2. Remove the front bezel from the tray. Gently pry up the bezel by relesing the catches with a small screwdriver. Allow the tray to retract.
3. Remove the front panel - undo large ribbon and wire connections on right, remove screws left and right, release
two catch tangs on bottom edge using a small screwdriver on the inside of the unit.
4. Remove the white plastic cover over the laser mechanism ( 2 screws) Remove the disk carrier by removing the center screw.
5. Extend the tray again. When the tray is out the small ribbon cable is visible below the tray. Undo the ribon cable where it attaches to the main unit unit.
6. To slide the tray off the main unit use a small screwdriver to depress the stop catches (2) in the tray. They are molded into the tray.
Pull the tray out further then lift up.
7. Flip over the tray and find the small circuit board the ribbon cable goes to. Desolder the motor wires (red and black) and remove the 2 screws
holding the circuit board and position switch.

Use a multimeter to confirm there is an open or poor connection in the ribbon cable connector.

Remove the ribon cable and inspect the connector with an eye loupe or other magnification device. On my player contact #1 was not positioned properly
to press against the ribbon cable conductor. You can either replace the connector or repair it.
Warning: repairing the connector may damage it.
To repair the contact desolder the connector from the circuit board. Bend the circuit board prong straight and push it into the body of the
connector which will extend the contact out and the contact can be reformed. Be very gentle. Bending the contact may cause it to break.

Reassembly is the reverse. Don't forget to solder the motor wires with the proper polarity. Red and Black are labeled on the circuit board.

I have had the same issue with mine. I am finding now that I replaced it with a blu-ray player that holding it at an angle seems to work. Still don't see what controls that. I took it to Tweeter twice back in the day and they gave it back to me that it worked fine, which it did in the store, but get it home, and the same thing. Perhaps they built Tweeter stores on a slant.

There is probably a loading belt that has become stretched and the tray is not completing the cycle, " meaning it is not opening all the way and ends up closing just as fast " this a tricky repair best suited for a professional.

My DVD tray on my Yamaha DV C6480 (it holds 5 DVDs) got stuck in the half open half closed position. It may have come off the track. I opened the case and reinstalled the DVD Tray. Now the tray...

This happens to us all the time. Here is the note I keep on how to fix it quickly:
When tray gets messed up, the drive wheel (with pegs that interlock with pegs on the tray) needs to be such that the tray slides in and out freely. Push tray all the way in. Turn on.

Hope that gives a hint.

Disc table does not open or close - stuck open

Hello the unit is out of timing now, it will have to be taken apart and retimed. You have skipped some gear tracks and the unit will not close until the Tray is realigned. Try hitting the eject button so the tray comes all the way out then pull on it gently to see if it realigns it self. When it trys to go back in it is hitting the clamper because the tray has not reached home and the clamper that gasps the disk is closing before it has a chance to return home.

Pioneer Dv 285 powers down after 15sec

Hi There, I've got the same problems with my DV 285. My power started going off approximately 5 to 10 minutes into the DVD. The only button that seems to work is the OPEN/CLOSE button. Once the tray closes, the unit shuts off. I can't even use the on/standby button to turn it on.
