Question about Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 500GB, 7200 RPM, USB 2.0, eSATA, External 500 GB Hard Drive
I have a 320GB Seagate external hard drive. I have 279GB free space. Tried to drag and paste a 3 GB pst file for storage and it says that there is no space. Tried to defragment it - says I am not authorized.
a. how to use the free space
b. how to remove the authorization restriction.
This is my home computer.
First of all HI :)
The main problem you have is that the file system of your hard drive is FAT32 not NTFS. You need to change it to NTFS in order to work. Here is how.
>> Copy all your data (the 50+GB you used) on to another hard drive
>> Now from My Computer
>> RIGHT CLICK
>> CHOOSE FORMAT
>> CHOOSE NTFS FILING SYSTEM
>> instead of FAT32 and
>> give your hard drive a nice full FORMAT
This will take a while and WARNING you will LOSE all your DATA so DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE YOU START THAT YOU COPIED EVERYTHING.
Hope that this Fixya Helps you :)
(please take some time to rate solution thanks)
