Sounds like to optical pickup (laser) has gone bad. Unfortunately on this model Samsung never made just the pickup available for replacement, they always made you replace the entire changer. The last few times I've tried to find this part for replacement I haven't been able to locate one.

hi, You have to check the laser pickup unit of you dvd player. In your dvd palyer the laser pickup unit is faulty. There are two lasers in DVD players laser unit. One for reading the DVD and the other for reading the CD. In your player the DVD laser is faulty. As it is one module you have to replace the laser pickup unit as a whole. You will get it from any electronic spare part shope near to you. As a whole i mean Normally laser pickup units come with its mechanism like in the picture . May have slight difference with your one. picture is only for reference. Its part number will be written on the bottom side of the laser unit. you have to take the laser unit as sample when you are going to buy the same. If it is reading cds it is sure that the laser pickup is faulty. Its a regular complaint to dvd palyers. To replace the laser pickup you have to remove the cd loader and have to remove connections to it. ok
The problem is in the laser pickup, overtime it becomes weak, or the pladder motor the dvd sits on becomes defective. The only option is to clean the laser pickup lens with a Q-Tip and rubbing alcohol and hope for the best. If this fails the entire assembly must be replaced "very expensive" or replaced the dvd/vcr combo "cheaper solution"
This indicates a problem with the pickup head. First I would suggest cleaning the laser head with a disk made for that purpose. If this does not work, then I would suggest (if you have a background in electronics) taking the cover off and checking the bias voltages on the laser pick head (comparring them to the schematic values). What I believe is happening is just a dust problem, however if it is a circuitry problem, contact the manufacture or use the schematic/service manual to locat OEM parts.
I would, however try to clean the pickup head first.
