Question about Canon PowerShot SD300 / IXUS 40 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Overexposed digital picture

I think my kids messed up the settings on my Canon SD 300 camera. Any picture taken outdoors is completely over exposed. I see a "mountain" scale on the display screen that I can't figure out what it is.

Help! I just want to get my camera back to normal and I'm in CHile, dying to take reg pictures. My kids have screwed up my camera.

thanks-
Brenda

When i take picture, the picture is white n some time become very very bright, but if take video is ok.

this can be usually associated with your white balance in still camera mode.
Check to see your white balance is set correctly or just set it to auto. Also make sure the mode you are in it set. (ie. indoor, outdoor, auto, speed)

The camera will not expose pictures properly; they are underexposed inside, or overexposed outside. The exposure adjustment feature is set in the middle or neutral mode. Changing the iso does not help. ...

It sounds like the light meter in the camera itself is probably broken and needs to be taken to a repair shop. Try using it in manual mode until you can get it fixed.

New pictures I am taking with my camera are showing up completely black. I can view previously saved pics on the SD card on the screen, but any new pics only come up black. Any ideas what this could be?

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Check you exposure compensation and make sure it's not set above 0. Also take a peek at your LCD brightness level. If it's set high, everything looks overexposed when it's really not.
