Question about MSI K8MM-V Motherboard

PC want start after replacing memory card

I changed my memory card from 512 mb to 1 gb, reinserted the stick to the motherboard and now wont turn on. Changed back to original memory stick and still wont start up, just freezes! I have the right memory stick for the motherboard, and had it double check to ensure correct one.

Thanks for feedback, I tried all that and still didn't work, someone suggested unplugging all adaptors inside the PC on the motherboard,DVD drive etc and restart and it seems to have worked!

    Thanks

Hello

1. Make sure that your computer supports 1Gb on 1 slot.

2. If you touched the chips with your hand you might have BURNED the chips with static electricity from your hands.

3. But before you start panicking check if you have moved the video card, if you did the PC won't show up anything and will halt at start up.

3. One last thing you might do to get the computer booting up again is to remove the CMOS battery for say 1 minute and then put it back in place to reset CMOS just in case. Then plug in your old memory in place turn off replace and try the new one. turn off try install both (never touching the chips on the RAM) and turn on again.

Hope that this helps :)

Yes you can.
For 512 Mb RAM you can use a single 512 Mb memory module or two 256 Mb memory modules.
For 1 Gb RAM you can use a single 1 Gb memory module or two 512 Mb memory modules.

Hello Sir, I had 512 MB 533 MHz DDR2 RAM(Dynet). Now I have bought 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 RAM(Dynet). My system has 2 slots. In one slot, I have 512 MB RAM and in another slot, I installed 1 GB RAM that I have...

The Intel D102GGC2 uses a Dual Channel Memory Architecture meaning that both slots need to be running at the same speeds. I would suggest getting another 667 MHz RAM card and installing it along side your current one, just as I reminder this motherboard only supports 2GB RAM Max so don't get one that is above 1GB.

I have 512 mg of memory. Would there be a big difference if I add a 1 gb stick and keep the 512 mb , as oppose to removing the 512 mb and replace with two 1 gb sticks?

The performance of your laptop will improve if similar memory is placed in each of memory slot.If 1gb memory and 512mb memory are placed in available slot you will only get the performance of a single 1gb memory.but two 1gb memory are used performance will be similar to a 2gb ram or more.

Change ram from 512 to 1 gig bios cannot read added ram

The original 2 sticks of 256 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 512
Mb of RAM. Two 512 Mb of RAM gives you a total of 1 Gb of RAM.
With two sticks of 512 Mb of RAM are you sure you got a total of 192 Mb of RAM, this is a lot less than the original RAM total of 512 Mb?
Should this be 1920 Mb of RAM?
If this 192 Mb is correct then the RAM modules are either not compatible with the laptop or if the RAM modules are not from the same manufacturer then they may not work together.

Most laptops have video cards that use part of the main RAM for video RAM, that is why the available RAM is less than the installed RAM modules. The amount of RAM the video card grabs depends upon the type of video card and in some cases the amount of video RAM can controlled in the BIOS setting.

Memory upgrade for P6VEM3 MB

For this mainboard, you must use 168-pin, 3.3V unbuffered PC100 or PC133 SDRAM memory modules. You can install any size memory module from 32 MB to 512 MB, so the maximum memory size is 2 x 512 MB = 1 GB. As noted on pg. 9 of your manual. Shut down your system. Remove one dimm of memory & start the Pc. Does it boot & do you have video? No? Shut down & replace the the dimm with next stick of memory. Try again. Still no video? Replace memory with old memory. Did you regain video? In most cases of installing new memory it's found the memory just wasn't seated well enough. In few others the memory did not meet the correct voltage.
prazum post back your findings.
