Assuming the power outlet and cable is OK the most likely problem is the power supply and needs to be replaced.

I have ballast problems with several X2 X3 projectors and even a C180 (Proxima) although with different ballast power layout. My X2 units mostly seem to have blown a pair of output FETs (2SK3568), but that is only part of the problem. One unit powers up, but just won't strike the lamp. Installing a good ballast power supply board fixes the problem, but I can't find any place to buy or repair these without sending the whole projector in for repair.
Perhaps it is time to trace out the schematic of these boards and have someone start repairing them at big profits.

you have to go to an infocus authorized service center. you may be able to purchase it from them without having them put it in. check the infocus website for an asc. but for reference, the part # for the ballast/power supply is 520-0126-00 if there is a "0" in the 5th to last position in the serial #, and 520-0143-00 if it's an "a" in the 5th to last position.

the caps dry out. look for bulging caps. you won't find a schematic for the ps boards. infocus had someone else make them. the problem seems more like a overheating issue. as for the other one with the "just the fans", check the colorwheel.
