Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
I tried to connect my acer aspire mini laptop to my tv using a vga cable. i could hear the audio but could'nt see the video. i restarted the laptop and then my tv screen said "format not supported" and nothing happened. please tell me how to connect my laptop to my tv.
I dont think that you PC is powerfull enough to connect to a high quality TV. I might be wrong though.

You get the audio from PC: you must use a separate audio cable to your TV audio input.
Configure your PC Display properties to a lower resolution until you reach a format your tv can display.
If you use a flat digital screen check the manual to know the resolution to be used with VGA input.
Use Dual screen option or swittch main screen/external/both using FN key + blue key showing screen on your keyboard. (F4 or F7? check manual.)

Press the Blue function key and toggle the screens. You can view, the Laptop, the Laptop and Screen, or just the screen.
Also you will need to flick through the channel button on the TV to get to the PC interface. Since you indicated you were using a VGA cable, this is likely the missing element.
Note: The VGA cable does not carry audio, you either had a separate audio interface to the TV or you were using RBG/Composite/S-Video/HDMI. So check to make sure you are using the correct cables.
