How do you get DVD player SOUND to play through the TV speakers
Hi there! How do you get the DVD player SOUND to play through the TV speakers? I have a new Panasonic 50” Plazma TV Model TH 50PZ 800A I have connected a Sony Home Theatre System to it. This is a DVD player and a speaker system. Sony Model DAV – SB 500W If I have a TV programme on, I can play the sound through the TV AND the Sony speaker system. Which is fine. If I play a DVD in the Sony, the sound system plays the sound and the TV shows the vision. However, the TV speaker system cannot be used. A good part of the Sony remote doesn’t work as I am not using a Sony TV, so there are compatibility problems. This is to be expected, so not much I can do about that. My questions are as follows: 1.When playing a DVD from the DVD Theatre System, is it possible to get the sound playing through the TV speakers? In other words, the sound goes through the Sony Theatre System AND the TV speaker system? (I understand someone might say Why would you do that? My answer is, when a TV programme is on, (ie. I can play sound through BOTH systems), I have found being able to use the TV speakers can sometimes provide another dimension to the sound. Having this extra facility would be nice when using just the DVD player). 1.How do I wire it up for that? I’m at [email protected] or dsemmm at gmail dot com. Thanks for reading. Dean
set the down mix from 5.1 to stereo, join the video and red and white audio leads to tv composite input.set the down mix from 5.1 to stereo, join the video and red and white audio leads to tv composite input.

Plug the stereo headphone jack to your dvd headphone output then connect it to your tv audio/video in and press the tv/video switch in your tv remote control.

so it is a connections problem I think. Check if video and audio cables are properly connected. Use color codes as your guide. Also from menu check if all settings are ok. Good luck
You have to hook up the audio cables to the TV from the DVD stand alone player. Red and White is audio and Yellow is Video. The player will play movies and the sound should go to your TV speakers. If not you will need to set it on the TV in the audio source to play from your speakers on the TV. John
for your dvd player you just go from audio out on the back of the dvd played to the audio in on the surround sound. and you would do the same for the tv if it has an audio out. your surround sound shoud have more than 1 audio in. and then when you swicht from tv to dvd you might have change the channle, setting, source, or what ever it might be called on the surround sound. and if your tv does not have a audio out contact me at [email protected] and i try to help you. hope that works :)
Please check at rear of TV for Digital Optical IN port as home theater should have optical out port at rear. If you got any optical in port in TV, just connect optical wire between TV and home theater.
2nd option is check Line Out pins at rear of home theater system, if found, hook red-white RCA cable there and put it to same input in TV where you hooked Video (composite or component) cable.
that is possible
the home theater has so many in puts on your dvd and out puts.
there is a way
1 you can buy a vedio/audio converted to rf signals, this will mean both signals entering tv using rf.
2 get your vedio out from dvd and audio out, feed that to a converter, vedio in and audio in okey
I had the same problem with mine. The solution I found was to use an optical audio cable rather than the red and white RCA audio jacks. Hope this helped.
You did not say if you have connected the video out on the surround system to the video in on the tv. If not connect it and select that input on the tv.
set the down mix from 5.1 to stereo, join the video and red and white audio leads to tv composite input.
