Re: WORD2THEWHYS- NEED MAJOR HELP
Don't install this update. Go to the windows update function and make it ask you before it will update your machine. When this update appears just check don't install and do not remind me again box's and that will stop the update from ever getting on your machine.

Unlikely to be issues with the OS. Have you recently upgraded to Win 7 from Vista or XP? and did the USB ports work with this OS? Do ALL usb ports fail or is it just one or two and are these the front USB's or rear USBs?
go into My computer>click properties>.hardware tab> device manager>universal serial bus controler> usb composite device properties> driver tab> roll back driver....do also to VIA USB enhanced host controller .Not positive this will help but had to do it on my sys. (win xp) to corect simmilar problem.
shademon - I'm assuming that the drive letter change didn't help? If not, here's the deal. When you installed Vista over XP you may not have had all of the correct drivers installed. There is still an option. Try going to microsoft update and running cutom updates, down the lefthand side you should see a list of "hardware" updates download and install all of those, perhaps there is a driver update for vista. If that doesn't work you probably have a few ports that are direct soldered to your mobo, but you've probably also got a few in the front that run on a 4 - 8 pin cable to your board. You can also buy a card that should go into your vacant PCI slots (make sure it's vista capable) and you should be able to install the drivers/software direct via a CD with the new hardware check out these products newegg is pretty reasonable price http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=PCI+USB hope this helps let me know if I can answer anything else.
As you stated the device works in one slot but not the other , tells you there is problem with that usb port , don't use those ports , best thing to do is purchase a PCI USB card if you need more USB ports .
hi, see if you have installed any new devices/hardware to see if its conflicting, often grafics cards conflict usb devices, also just check that in the setup(when you boot up)that the usb ports have not been disabled or usb keyboard support hasn't been enabled/disabled. good luck!!
You shouldn't need the USB driver 2.0 from mercury because windows installs this with SP2. Suggest you un-install what you installed from mercury & update your version of windows (completley), through "Windows Update". Once windows is all updated & you have finished with a reboot. Plug your pen drive in a opened usb port. Open windows explorer. Scroll down & you should see an icon (left side of explorer), thats named like, Removable Disk. Give windows time to see the device. After a few minutes if your pen device does not show up try another usb port. One you know does work. If after a couple of minutes go by & you still don't see the device listed in explorer I would say the device is defective. Your Mp4 uses a cable to connect to the usb. Try connecting to another PC's usb port. It is possible the cable is dirty or bad.
