Picture distorted on Mitsubishi WS-65909

We turned off the TV and turned it back on 10 minutes later and the picture was distorted with a horizontal curved line at the top and a horizontal curved line at the bottom. On the subtitles and credits, there are red words and green words. The letters aren't aligned together.

Hi and welcome to FixYa,
Initially, is your concern something like the image below? Picture distorted on Mitsubishi WS-65909 - e91c8b8.jpg
If yes, then as the others posted, it is a convergence issue. Others have successfully performed a DIY (do-it-yourself). You might be able to pick up some hints, tip and procedures form here. Parts are readily available from online, an ecample is here.

This of course would require opening the unit, perform voltage measurements, determine faulty component and subsequent part(s) replacement. Further, a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron would be required. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings.Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY, perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional. If the cost of repairs and downtime would be factored in, then you may have to re-evaluate your options and consider a replacement.
Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

This is a convergence problem. Either there are bad connections on the convergence ICs or the ICs are defective. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink and should be marked STKxxx. Try resoldering the pins first. If that does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs.

Look for the convergence ICs. They will be large black ICs attached to
a heatsink and are probably marked STKxxx. Try resoldering first. If
that does not fix it, replace the ICs

The convergence IC is bad. It should be an STKxxx. a rather large
black IC screwed to a heat sink. If you have any experience with
soldering, you should be able to replace this part and save yourself
the labor charge. THe part should be available on-line for about
    $25-$30 or so.

The vertical Ic should be attached to a heat sink and be a 9-pin inline
chip. The part number on the chip . You should be able to get this part on-line.
Replace it and that should take care of the problem. If the picture
seems not right after replacing the chip, then additional parts will be
needed. These are also available and inexpensive (capacitors).

It sounds like the convergence is out of alignment. Most likely you will want a professional to have it realigned or diagnose a problem with the convergence circuitry.

Ws-65909 picture and sound are fuzzy, will a new power supply fix it???

It does not sound like a power supply problem. Most of the boards for this set are no longer available from Mitsubishi.

The most common problem these sets have is called convergence. Go into the customer menu with the Mitsubishi remote and select convergence--enter the "advanced" and look at the grid of lines (set will have on screen instructions for this) Let me know more exactly what your picture looks like.

I suspects you have bad convergance IC's

It takes a good tech around 3 or 3 hours to take the old ones out and solder in the new ones. Also, it is likely one or two resistors are burnt and will need replacing as well.
Don not run the tv till you have it fix you will cause more damage!

It seems you have a loose conection in the Horizontal deflection circuit,I will start checking the horizontal driver transformer then any overheated areas in the power supply and overall chassis. If you are familiar with tv service you know where to look but if you are not be safe and call for help, try no to use the set or the problem will be worst.
