Question about Frigidaire ATF6000ES Front Load Washer

1 Answer

The washer will not turn on. Leading up to this: the washer would intermittantly go through one cycle then stop. We had to "jiggle the switch" to get it to go to the next cycle. Sometimes the washer would complete the whole wash, rinse, spin on it's own. Now it will not work at all. Switch problem??? Washer Specifics: Frigidaire, Gallery, Front Load, XL Capacity, Heavy Duty, MN: 417.39012890, SN: XC84098149, mfd by White Consolidated Industries, Augusta Ga for Frigidaire Please Help!!! Thank you in advance!!! Beth Hatch

What was happening was that we were more or less "finessing" the knob on the front of the washer to get it to continue the cycle without skipping a rinse or spin.

Sorry -- I wasn't exactly clear on that, either, was I?

    Thanks for answering.

    Bill,

Thanks for your help. We'll try going the timer route; and thanks a lot for the factory manuals link -- that's really helpful!

I'll contact you if we need more help.

Hello,

Check your lid switch, sounds like a top load whirlpool or kenmore problem.

Post a model number and I can help you out further.

Thanks,
Bill

When you say jiggle the switch, you mean the timer knob? Or are you talking about the door switch?

LOL, I was a little off on the whirlpool top load. But anyway. It happens.

Let me know what your jiggling.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Hello,

Well, it sounds like a short inside the timer. It's possible to have a dead spot or basically some burnt contracts inside the timer that will cause it to not pass a certain spot. It may have happened once in a while then over time completely stops in that spot everytime.

I've been on many calls like this one and replacing the timer will get your machine back to normal.

Here is a link for some repair manuals that may help you out with this. These are the factory manuals for frigidaire appliances

With this complaint they are going to tell you the same thing that I just told you basically. You can try removing the timer and disassembling it, then cleaning the contacts inside the timer. It is possible that the ends of the contacts have burnt completely off then there is nothing you can do but replace the timer.

    Good Luck,

If you have anymore questions please ask. I will be more than happy to help you further.

WASHING MACHINE stopped in mid-cycle

if it stops at the drain and spin cycle check the lid switch, open the lid,set the washer to spin cycle and pull out the timer knob, stick a screw driver into the hole where the strike from the lid goes into and push down,if you don't hear a clicking sound when you push down on the switch in the hole then you have a bad lid switch but if your machine does run sometime it sounds like the switch will work if you push down on it,could be cracked where the screws go into it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5aW9WkTFhE watch video on how to replace it.if you do hear a clicking sound when you open and close the lid or push down with the screw driver you could have a bad timer but check the lid switch first

Washer has stopped and won't move on to rinse cycle and won't drain. It's done this before but if I jiggled the lid, it would continue. That is no longer working. The washer has finished the wash cycle...

Its the lid switch that is defective..located under the top panel portion of the machine and engages the lid when it shuts as a safety device....unplug and try to locacte it yourself.

Washer is acting erratic. spin cycle works sometimes. stops half way through cycle sometimes. got a new belt. what's next? pump or timer. both are spendy $ thanks. frigidaire FTR630ASO

The control monitors the door lock prior to and during the spin cycle as a safety feature. The washer will not advance to the spin cycle when the door lock is not activated and stops when the lock is deactivated during the spin cycle.

In your case, the door lock is working intermittently causing the washer to spin intermittently. This is probably due to a faulty door lock and switch assembly or poor connection at the control board or at the assembly itself. Replace the door lock and switch assembly if necessary.

Washer stops during rinse cycle and isn't easily restartable....

Sounds like the contacts in the timer has a problem. Unplug washer. Remove the back of the washer and spray WD40 in the timer. Put towels around and under to to collect excess runoff.
Rrotate washer dial 25 times and spray some more wd40. Rotate 25 times again. Do a wash load. If it works put everting back together.

The selector for the spin cycle intermittently does not work

Yes. It is a timer. A lot of time though, the washer stop because the lid control switch is open. I means the washer has a sensor to stop when the lid is open or when the spin go widely unbalanced. Sometimes this sensor is too sensitive to vibration and stop the machine. The switch is in the back just behind the timer.

Runs full wash cycle, but there it is still full of water and suds

Amy, there was a service flash for the lid switch on this model. The contacts inside the switch were sporatic which caused; stopping in mid cycle, wet clothes and no drain. You would have to put it in spin and have someone jiggle the wires to the lid switch to verify that this is the problem and not a timer problem. I really think it's a lid switch problem. Your part number for the new, non adjustable switch is 12001908.

Stops midcycle, restarts when you lean on it

If the problem lies with the contacts, then the knob is not the direct problem, it would be the selector switch behind the knob. Although I don't understand how leaning on the to makes the machine work. Are you sure it is not the switch that indicates when the lid is closed? Either way, Yes!! you can simply just change the switch over.
