If that doesnt work, here is what you do. (if you have a linksys. im not sure if it works on other wireless routers.) on your computer, right click on your wireless network connection. click status, then click the support tab. type the default gateway in your address bar on internet explorer. hit enter, and it should start to load, and ask you for a user name and password. type in "admin" into the password, and leave the username blank. there should be a dropdown box next to MTU. change that from auto to manual, and type in 1500. this is instructions for linksys, but try it even if you dont have linksys. it might still work.

It's a problem with your connection although you can try changing the dns on your wifi connection. Go to Settings > Wifi > Select the network you are connecting to then change the dns settings to 126.96.36.199,188.8.131.52
The wireless port of the ipod touch sounds broken. It could be from a bump or drop, moisture exposure. etc. etc.
If you've update the software and it still doesn't work, it sounds like a physical problem.
jailbreak can cause wifi issues as well.
Try clicking the Renew Lease button, on the same page where you found the "Forget this Network" button. Or, on the home page, go to Settings->General->Reset->Reset Network Settings. Reset Network Settings, again, in the red box. Once the iPod is back on, try connecting to Safari. If this doesn't work, try turning off your Linksys router for at least 30 sec to 1 min. Turn it back on and try connecting to Safari. This should work, hopefully.
On your wireless router, make sure of your Firewall settings (if there is any form of blocking) and it's security settings (eg, network name, password and security type etc). Once you are sure of it's settings, on the iPod go to Settings, then Wifi. In there turn off then on wifi. Allow it to scan then if it comes up with your network, select it then type in the password when requested and tap Join. If it doesn't show you need to enter it manually. To do this tap on Other then type in the Network name. It should now request a password (if one is set) and you are then connected indicated by the wifi logo in the status bar.
For more info refer to your ipod touch manual pages 90-91.
don't let the iTouch connect to the wi-fi network it detected automatically - try setting up a new wi-fi network from scratch.
the setup screens will ask for network name (the SSID) the security protocol (probably WPA-PSK if you are having all this trouble) and the password (pre shared key)
