Question about HP Photosmart 8050 InkJet Printer
I have a Photosmart Printer it's an 8049. I had it plugged in to my iMac, which is two years old. It was working fine, and then yesterday I moved my computer to a different wall in my office. I plugged everything back in, and replaced the ink cartridges.
I tried to print and it won't print anything out. The printer printed a test page when I put in the ink cartridges, so I know the printer works still. (It just worked yesterday...too)
On the Mac the icon pops up saying it's printing, then it says connection error, check connection. So I unplugged everything, plugged it back in. Still didn't work, and then I did all of the Mac troubleshooting, still didn't work. I tried a different USB cord, nothing. Then it spit out half of the page I had requested to print and stopped again. It still won't print anything tonight. I even unplugged both for 20 minutes, and let them reset.
I followed all HP directions for troubleshooting that they had online. I then tried the printer on my laptop, and the Mac laptop won't pick it up either. So I guess it needs something reset or something? I checked my USB and it's not recognizing it.
I uninstalled the printer from the computer, and then re-installed all software. Now the software can't even pick up the printer to re-install. What do you think I need to do?
Sounds like their is not communications between your printer and computer. Could be a bad USB cable - swap out and see if that fixes it. If not it could be a faulty USB port on the computer or printer. You can check the computer USB port by connecting another device, but there is no way to check the HP's USB port. I would also check printer USB port for dust bunnies! If you're not able to resolve, I think it is time for another printer.

I had same problem with hp psc 2410 all-in-one. Finally ran "HP all-in-one Series Web Release Uninstaller version: 4.1.1.00.1332 (3/20/2007) that I had downloaded several years ago. Then plug and play took over and installed the correct driver that Vista kept insisting I already had.
