Re: sound is muffled toshiba 57h81
Go to the back of the unit where you hook up the cable. You will see a thumb swith labeled "center channel audio". Flip it to the OFF position and you should be OK. Turn down the volume first so as not to blow the speakers. Let me know if I can be of further assistance

I have the same prob need to change the resistors as a first resolution. there should be 5 of them, if you dont soon and i mean soon you could cause the skt to go bad and have to start over in your repair
I have a toshiba 55hx70 same problem, repair guy just left said it was the power supply and wasnt worth fixing 350 to 400 dollars The tv is 9 years old and they wouldnt even take it to shop. Its been a great tv firs thing to go wrong.. Wo nder if I could replace it myself???
Could be a contact piece of the MUTE button from your remote that is causing it. Go out and Big Lots or Radio Shack to get a cheap universal remote control(big lots would be between $5-$10) Pick up the code for it,and when the tv happens again, your the OLD remote MUTE button to turn it back on and then put away this remote control and use the new universal remote control. However,if the problem is coming from the manual MUTE button on the TV,you need a repair tech, to fix it! solutiondoct
Check all fuses in the power supply and look for any bad connrctions on the PCB. You are probably missing the 130 volt supply to the horizontal circuit. Common reasons are: Shorted horiz output transistor; flyback transformer, picture tube arcing , bad power regulator IC. In short, you need to get a qualified tech for this symptom. Hope this helps.
