Question about JVC DX-T9 System
My tray was also sticking but I managed to solve the problem. I can also tell you why slapping the unit worked.
The reason that it sticks (at least in my case) is that the magnet which holds the reading head upwards becomes stronger with use. Thus the reading head will not go down to its place and the tray can't slide out. When you slap the unit the magnet lets the reading head fall down and the tray opens.
I solved my problem by taking the dvd recorder apart (taking note of how I dismantled it so as to reassemble afterwards). When disassembled I put some tape (electrical tape as it is a bit thicker) over the magnet. This weakened the strength of the magnet and allowed the tray to open normally. It makes some noise when reading the dvd, but the tray always opens and I can read and burn dvd's once again with no harm done.

SOURCE: DVD Tray will not open
I purchased this unit back in Mid November to make DVD's of my kids old VHS tapes. To date I have probably have made 400 DVD's. Sunday we came home from being gone all day and the unit was locked up. I tried the reset button, unplugged the unit etc to no avail. I unplugged the unit all Sunday night and looked at it again on Monday morning. I was ready to take the unit back to Best Buy and the unit ejected the DVD and has worked for 2 days (Recorded another dozen DVD's). Tonight while reading the paper a message came on my monitor that there was a problem with the disk and instructed me to push the "enter" button which shut the unit off and was suppose to recover the disc. The recorder is now locked up again. A number of 000000's flashes accross the display and the unit constantly cycles off/on. So it is trying to recover but is obviously not being successful. I am going to try the same thing tonight. I am not sure if I have a bad set of blank DVD's. They are Sony -DVD R, same ones I have been using all along. I do remember having this "Error" message when I first started this project and I had to unplug the unit to resolve but it didn't lock up and I haven't had any issues until Sunday. Seems like something in the software is screwed up. It is frustrating that there doesn't seem to be a manual way to eject the disk??!!
