What is the code in the rca rcu404?

a UNIVERSAL is a waste of money--if you try enough codes it will likely only turn on or off and maybe volume--it will be missing a lot of essential features the original had. If original is lost look for an exact remote--by model number---with that model you can call Panasonic customer service and get the part number and a price and availability for it or search online to see if someone else sells it.

Need to replace DVD unit of 27hlv toshiba combo tv/DVD. DVD reads some discs but not others. This model is discontinued. Please advise.

The DVD drive on that unit will probably no longer be available for replacement from manufacturer but you can usually find a good working drive on Ebay at a reasonable price. just type in model number and see if one comes up. Another place to check would be

My dvd drive is stuck I think my son put too many dvds in there ad not it wont open model number is APEX DVD combo GT2015DV

If it has been overloaded with too many dvd's, then you won't be able to eject them. You'll have to disassemble and remove the discs manually, if you are not comfortable doing this, call an electronics shop, most large ones (FutureShop, BestBuy) will preform repairs. Cheers!

DVD drawer won't open. It whirs and tries to open but then after a few minutes, gives an error message. I'm wondering if one of the kids put a 2nd DVD in the tray and closed it. Is there a manual release?

There normally is a manual release hole you can open with a straitened paper clip, but you will have to open the unit, remove the drive.
Looking at the drive from the front facing the tray, the release hole is normally 1/4 from the right side.

When I try to formatting a Disc, and I have tried

What you have is a disc finalising error; it was a known issue with one of the chipsets fitted to the DVR1600 when using some brands of DVD+R. CyberHome eventually released a firmware update which addressed the issue along with a few other problems.

Unfortunately, CyberHome appear to no longer exist: their website certainly does not so the firmware update you'd need will not be easy to find.

You have three options available:-

1. Post an appeal on a suitable forum such as Some of their members certainly downloaded the firmware back in 2005 and you may be lucky enough to find someone who still has it lurking in the dusty corners of their pc hard drive.

2. Try using DVD-R instead from a well known major brand. Your machine is compatible with these and it's certainly worth trying as that's the most widely compatible format for all DVD movie recorders. Machines like yours use older technology and so it was primarily designed to use -R. Compatibility with +R was a later
"bolt-on" to the original package. I would also have advised that you try different brands of +R but as you state "I have tried a few" it seems as if you've done this already.

3. Retire the machine to use for playback only and buy a new recorder. There have been considerable improvements in the technology of both recordable discs and the hardware over the last five years and you'll find that a new drive will be faster and more reliable than your CyberHome model was. Your current unit was a budget model built down to a price so when it was made around five years ago it was excellent value as it used older technology and it's done very well to last this long.

I hope that you have found my posting to be of use and ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

I have a Sansui TV/DVD Combo SAN 31195 and the DVD player has stopped working. A local repairer needed to get a replacement loader but was advised by Sansui they no longer have them. How do I get hold of...

Depending upon the age of your unit, the part is likely to no longer be available. I find it hard to believe that you need the entire loading mechanism though. Usually, the only part required is the loading belt. If, in fact, the mechanism is damaged, then you are not likely to find one. Typically, parts like this are only available for 5 years. If your unit is older than that the parts are not available.

Please note that this parts availability has nothing to do with the fact that this is an analog TV.
