Question about Zenith C27A25 27" TV

1 Answer

The picture is jumping, sometimes the tv shows three of the picture.

The sounds works fine, it is just a problem with the picture. It jumps horribly, sometimes the screen is all black with just a two inch picture in the middle. Can this be fixed?

Re: The picture is jumping, sometimes the tv shows three...

The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked. This is a common problem in those sets and resoldering the pins of the vertical outpit IC will cure the problem.

My picture started out jumping horizontally and after it warmed up it would work fine. now it is jumping vertically and doesnt stop jumping.

The reason your TV is doing this is due to a component that has become thermally sensitive, & when it heated up it made better contact, and, as it has thermally cycled, hot to cold to hot to cold again over and over the compnent has failed completely, thus the fault is as we say :Hard On".Which is easier to diagnose than an intermittent thermal problem. The only real fix is to take it to a ruputable service centre/man and get a firm "Quote" for reoair.

It is EMI ... electromagnetic interference...

Do you carry your cellphone when this happens? Maybe your iPod?... could also be static charge on your clothes (not likely, but possible)... like wearing sox on a carpet...

Intermittent fine black ines at the bottom of the screen

sounds like dry joints , you will need to solder up around the field output stage first.

sometimes a faulty capacitor can cause this fault or even the field chip itself.

hope this helps.

Picture jumping

If this jumping is accompanied by a sharp snapping sound, it may be the high voltage circuit discharging to chassis. Leakage can cause the jumping and a discharge can momentarily blank the picture.

If you want to try a 'cleaning cure,' I suggest you pull the plug (not just turn it off) for several hours, preferably overnight. Sets of this size can carry enough static charge to punch a hole through your thumb if you get careless.
Remove the rear housing (shouldn't be more than 6-8 screws) and using a clean paintbrush, and possibly a vacuum to **** up the dust, clean it well and pay special attention to the area around a largish misshapen black plastic object bigger than most anything else and connected to the back of the picture tube via a fairly thick cable.

Toshiba 36A43 36" turning off and jumping on certain shows/commercials

I need to know a bit more. Does to sound give any noises when the picture is jumping? Reason is this would suggest the high voltage breaking down, which could be caused by dust or very high humidity, so check the location of the set. If dust has collected inside you need to clean it out with a long artists brush, but beware if you do not know about high voltage danger. Dust can also cause overheating and shutdown. Is it only the satelite box which causes trouble? If so then you may need to alter (attenuate) the input level of the Video signal. Could you contact the dealers?
