Question about Kingston 1GB PC2700 DDR SoDIMM Notebook Memory

1 Answer

Memory Installation I removed my two 256K and tried to install two 1G DDR PC2700 memory cards onto my Toshiba M45 S169 laptop. When I did, all I got is a blank screen for a few seconds and then it shuts down. This is after I hold the power on button for 10 seconds. I then reinstalled the two 256k memory chips and get the same thing. What can I do?

Look at the hardware documentation and look for a bios reset switch.. that should make the pc usable again.. then i would suggest.. trying a slower ram module.. ie 2300 might work..

the bios might be seeing it but windows might not, the possibility exists that windows is not able to view the full amount of ram installed try this. go to the start menu > accessories > system tools option and look for the system information tool, this will tell you more about the ram installed, note: windows dose on occasion report the wrong amount of ram when their is a 64 bit os installed or their is a 64 bit system

From the information you sent, I can't figure out the exact make & model of your motherboard, but I would guess that it supports a maximum of 2 GB of RAM. So, I would suggst you try to install 2 RAM modules, each of them 1 GB in capacity & see if this works.
From my previous experience, most motherboards with only 2 slots for RAM modules support only a maximum of 2 GB RAM total.

Cant Start Up

Hi
start with removing the added ram try starting up, if it doesn\t start up does it beep?

if noting happens remove all the ram, the computer should definitely beep now.
Add only the original memory and try starting up you should get picture.

This seems to be a old problem and if you don\t need assistance in solving it. It would be great if you would share to the world how you fixed your problem so other users can benefit from your experience.

Thank you, Ekse

Dell dimension 4550

Dell has a habit of using proprietary memory in their machines, if it isn't proprietary you can near guarantee that cheaper memory sticks will not be recognised.
Play safe and use the memory configurators at crucial.com and newegg.com
I bought two DDR2 1gig sticks at crucial yesterday for $50.00 for both with free shipping.

KINGSTON VALUE RAM 1GB PC3200 MEMORY

Hi,
You have the answer in your question. I have checked the PC specification and you are right, it uses PC2700 memory. Therefore you need to install PC2700 memory. PC3200 memory will be the wrong speed and will not be supported.
