Question about General Electric JES1142WD 1100 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

What is involved in installment requirement for kitchen timer?

I want to purchase the JES1142WD microwave oven for a friend who lives alone. Your specs say that there is an installation requirement for the kitchen timer. What does that involve. I want a microwave that all you have to do is take it out of the box, put it on the counter and plug it in.

You can download and look at the owner's manual online here.

You will need the free Acrobat Reader to view or print it in case you don't have it.

The manual should answer your questions.

If not, please reply back the specific URL / Web address where you saw something about an "installation requirement for the kitchen timer".

That doesn't ring any bells with me. It may be on a dealers page.

This unit should be as simple as reading the owner's manual, then plugging it in, setting the clock and you're ready to use it.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Use kitchen timer not cooking timer, it's written on your oven timer pad. I did that before

Microwave blows fuse to kitchen outlet when it is plugged in. microwave still works.

What else in on the circuit? Your oven should be on its own. If you live where I live, this should be a 20 amp 120 Volt AC branch wired directly from your power panel.

If this is not the case, have a licensed electrician install a proper circuit for you.

I set the timer for 20 seconds, it started blinking and timer went off, but would not start. Now it just sounds the timer and I am unable to set anything.

Unfortuneately the keypad control board must be replaced to resolve this issue. But keep in mind the part alone is more expensive than some microwave ovens.

We purchased a Maytag microwave MMV4205BAQ about 3 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen. I put a cup of water in the microwave to boil and when I touched the Start button, I heard a small POP behind...

if microwave is counting down but no heat you either have a loose connection at the magnatron tube or the thermal cut out fuse that is connected to the magnatron has blown or you have a micro switch, that has failed

Microwave power turns off after a few sec running incl oven power

I would suggest having whoever installed the new appliances come back and check out his work. There might be a poorly made electrical connection somewhere, and you might have a potential fire hazard.

You might also have gotten a lemon microwave oven. This happens sometimes. (Usually when I buy something.) Contact the store where you purchased it and ask if they have a service person who can check it, or just tell them what's happening and you want a replacement. They'll just return yours to the manufacturer.

In any case, have this checked out to be sure your wiring isn't at fault.

I have a model #565.68421 purchased in April 1998. Clock and timer work but it stopped working otherwise. Is it worth exploring repair? Any suggestions for trouble shooting?

At the price of a new microwave, it is not really worth exploring any further. If the magnetron gave out, it's cost alone without labor would be excessive.

Timer runs fast, plus no heat Maytag MMV1153BAW

No... you are not in a microwave induced time warp...
Your microwave oven needs a "reboot". The same thing happened to me.
Unplug your microwave oven, wait about a minute (more or less), plug it back in. Try setting/running your kitchen timer, boil water, etc. Your timer software on the microwave should be reset.
