I have no codes. I changed the oil 2000 miles ago my husband used 50/50 I bought 10 30, We replaced a coil and put new spark plugs in. I have been hearing a flapping noise on the underody when I accelerate. My oil is running low and I have noticed the last few days when I accelerate there is a cloud of solid white smoke that stinks. I drive about 100 miles a day and need help with this issue. Thank you for your time.
Ck your coolant for a mixture of oil & coolant & any coolant in your oil. Sounds like a faulty head gasket or bad valve. where any of the plugs wet with oil or coolant? If so head gasket or valves. good luck

This is almost certainly a split hose - mine was the large hose coming out of the bottom of the EGR valve.
Speaking to a parts guy at my local Jaguar dealer, he said that the new part is uprated as Jaguar are aware that this is a problem.
The split allows more air in and results in the ECU changing the mixture and over fuelling - Black smoke is an indication of un-burnt Diesel. As well as the black smoke you may also notice a whistle/whine or sucking noise when you accelerate and a lack of power / lumpiness at around 2000rpm.

Hi! Chris, There are many causes of oil burning or exhaust smoke. There are three different causes of normal oil burning, 1; worn valve guides (smoking during deceleration), 2; worn cylinders and piston rings (smoking during acceleration), 3; split or worn out valve seal, or damaged intake manifold gasket (smoking all the time). Of course there are several variables in this equation. Sometimes coolant can also get into a cylinder and cause a blueish smoke. If you remove the spark plugs and use a pressure pump on the coolant system (radiator), coolant should leak into the intake manifold or cylinder. Coolant leaking into the intake manifold will leak into several cylinder through the valves. So, what year and how many miles are on the Jaguar?

2000-2002 S-Types are horrible for this problem. Especially around 80,000 miles or more.
You are feeling a misfire(s). If no check engine light, then the computer can't determine exactly which cylinder is misfiring. Yes the coils are under the black covers on top of the cam(valve) covers. One per clyinder. I would recommend replacing all eight as the new coils are a newer design and if you just replace one now you will be replacing them one by one very soon. Make sure the tech inspects the cam(valve)cover seals for leaking, as they are bad to leak into the spark plug wells and cause same problem. Also change spark plugs as well at this time. Good luck!

i dont know if this 402 code is a miss code on a jag but usually miss codes are p0300 codes. if you are hearing a ticking and you own a spray bottle, an old mechanics trick is to mist water on the plug wires while the engine is running preferrably in the dark.

And yes - spark plugs are included in a tune up..
