I have a Kenmore He 2 plus washing machine, which is getting an error code (F24). Can someone help. I'm not sure if this is an easy fix or not, nor what needs to be done to stop this error. Thanks

Hi

F24 is a water temperature sensor error. You have to unplug the washer and check the water temperature sensor and its connections, if that is fine then check the resistance of the heating element and the part that is bad should be replaced. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

I have a Kenmore HE2T error code F24

The "F24" error code is a heat sensor error code. The following link explains the error code in detail and the steps to correct it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1976126-f24_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

In many cases, the connector plug on the NTC sensor wiggles loose and causes the error code. Check the NTC connection first to make sure it is tight and making good contact. This may save you a service call and/or replacement parts. Make sure you UNPLUG the washer before servicing anything inside the unit.

A replacement NTC module (if required) can be purchased at searspartsdirect.com for about $10. Refer to the parts illustrations under the "Tub and Basket Parts" heading.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: Each washer comes with a technical data sheet located inside the cabinet. You will need to remove the lower toe panel directly below the door to access it. If it is not located directly behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. The tech sheet includes all troubleshooting tips, wiring diagrams and fault codes with explanations.

Fault code F24

This advice is for Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite model FRONT LOADERS displaying the "F24" Error Code. Some of the error codes on these model washers can be erroneous, however. The first step in troubleshooting any error code is to simply unplug the washer for AT LEAST 30 minutes in an attempt to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). This is the main "brain" of the washing machine. If the error code reappears following a CCU reset, then you have a genuine problem.

"F24" is an indication of a water temperature sensor (NTC) error, or Heating Circuit failure. Check the Water Temperature Sensor and check connections to the Water Temperature Sensor.

To access, you will have to UNPLUG your washer and remove the lower access panel under the door. The panel comes off by removing the screws under the bottom edge. HINT: If you place a 2 x 4 under the front feet of the washer, it will make access to the screws much easier. If the panel sticks, a tap on the sides will knock it free. The panel will drop down then come off. The sensor (NTC) is located at the base of the wash tub in the front on the heating element. This will be a small square shaped plug between the heating element terminals. Make sure this plug is secure and not loose or unplugged. It is common for the connector plug to come loose due to vibration. If the plug is intact, check the contacts for corrosion. If everything appears as it should, then unplug the wire harness and take a resistance check. Readings will be as follows:

Temperature Meter Reading
32°F (0°C) 35.9 K ohms
86°F (30°C) 9.7 K ohms
104°F (40°C) 6.6 K ohms
122°F (50°C) 4.6 K ohms
140°F (60°C) 3.2 K ohms
158°F (70°C) 2.3 K ohms
203°F (95°C) 1 K ohms

Roughly...around 9K ohms at room temperature if I'm reading the chart correctly. Take readings as listed and also double check the connector to make sure it is not oxidized. Try cleaning the plug and reconnecting to see if the error code goes away. If not, you will probably have to replace the sensor. If the sensor checks good, take a reading across the heating element terminals. It should indicate about 15 ohms.

Lastly, remove the washer top panel by removing the three screws holding the panel in place in the rear. Once the screws are removed, slide the panel back then off. Locate the Central Control Unit (CCU) directly behind the wash tub. Take a resistance check at the Heating Element Solenoid by removing connector 9 from the CCU (this is the second connector from the RIGHT as facing from the front). A reading across test points 1 & 2 should also read 15 ohms.

Error code f24

F24 indicates a water temperature sensor error. If during the wash cycle in the water-heating step, the water temperature sensor (NTC) value is out of range the F24 error code will display.

Possible causes:
  • Too cold of water or hot water is turned off
  • Temperature sensor failure or loose connection
  • Control board failure

From Terybul:

I took the cover off the drain pump and found a penny lodged in it. Please note this is a new drain pump and motor combo that I replaced on the machinge approx 5 months ago. The original pump is solid and you can't take it apart to clean it. If there is a piece of clothing in it, you can try to pull it out. I did this before when I had the original pump, but it never worked the same ... it made a loud humming noise when spinning. I bought the replacement piece off e-bay for about $70. It was fairly easy to install. The new pump is easy to take off and check ... it has only 4 screws. Try to drain the machine as much as possible and have several containers ready to catch the water or you will have a flood ... see note 1.

Before you do all this, check the external drain hose ( the hose from your washing machine to the drain in your wall) was clogged with a penny. The original external drain hose has a valve that keeps water from coming back into the washing machine. On an occassion one year ago, I found a penny that had lodged in the valve and kept it from draining and thus the "FL" code.

Note 1: A good way to drain your washing machine is to take a hose pipe and put it in the top of the machine and then use a manual air mattress pump (in reverse mode) on the opposite end of the hose that you put outside. After several pumps on the air mattress pump sucking the water through the hose, you will create a suction that will keep flowing until much of the water is out of your tub. Be ready with several containers to catch the rest of the water when you take the hoses off the pump.

Note 2: Check pockets well to keep things from getting into the drain system. Use a delicate wash bag (a mesh bag) to wash undergarmets, hose, hankerchiefs, and other thin items that might get sucked into the drain system.
